Auction Draft Questionnaire (Post Draft)

Overall strategy
1. What was your initial approach going into the Auction Draft?
I make no plans...I trust my gut and need no rankings or anything like that to draft in any format. I wanted to put key players onto my team at every position.

2. Did you end up sticking to your initial draft strategy?
Yes and No. Hard to stick to a plan that never existed but I will say I was caught off guard by the extreme spending that started the DD auction. Others said they expected it but it didn't make much sense but ultimately I am very sorry I did not capitalize on the opportunity it presented. I just got caught up in trying to win players in the beginning when ultimately I could have never owned a player for the first week and made out way better.

3. How did you divide your spending on Offense and Defense? Any additional strategies here?
I still have no idea what the breakdown is and don't care either.

4. Any observations about the other owner’s approaches in the Auction Draft? (Good, Bad, Ugly, Surprising)
Again, was surprised at the insanity it started into but like I said beforehand, if everyone does it then it is relative and thats what happened. I think it worked out for everyone to their liking but I feel like I did not take one of the optimal two paths I should have taken and got caught in the middle of them instead.

5. What was your biggest “oh shit” moment of the draft?
Realizing about a week in or so what I had done to myself and being stuck to follow through on it. The TT side did what I had expected so I feel I would have done better over there since a couple ideas I had would have worked and everything else would have played as I expected. The DD mayhem basically put me off-balance which is never a good thing.

Reflecting on your spending
6. How did the Auction go compared to your expectations and your previous experiences?
Think I spelled that out pretty clear so far. Spent more on Big Ben than I would have liked to but by that time I HAD to have him and the prices of QBs was through the roof.

7. How happy are you with how you drafted? Where do you think you overspent?
Not so much...I clearly know how I could have done better. I overspent by even getting involved the first week. Based on what the rest of them were doing I should have not spent a nickel until later and then easily could have just had whoever I wanted but I kept trying to get certain guys and ultimately spent just as much money as the rest of them which is super sad when I look back on it.

8. Was there a player you missed out on and thought you would own before the draft?
I kinda was thinking I was going to take Jimmy Graham at an insane price but my "insane" was lower than the other "norm" so I abandoned that thought quickly.

9. Who was the one guy on your team that you couldn’t live without and had to have on your team?
I never really work that way. I know my willingness to trade and that leaves little love for anyone. I suppose my Eric Berry and Patrick Peterson would be the closest thing.

10. Who was, in your opinion, the greatest steal on your team?
Randall Cobb for $14 considering player costs in DD is actually mind-blowing.

Assessing your squad
11. What draft grade would you give yourself (A, B, C, or D)?
F

12. What are your overall thoughts on your team?
The funny thing is, despite be very displeased with how the draft went for me and despite that everyone else clearly does not like what I did with my team, when I just look it over I am alright with it and feel like I very well can make things work in 2012 and beyond so no worries.

13. Who are the 3 key players to your franchise?
1. Ben Roethlisberger
2. Antonio Brown
3. Eric Berry

14. What do you perceive to be your team’s greatest weakness?
I guess I will say WR but looking at each position I am not very disappointed and in the blink of an eye what appears to be less than ideal could be very strong.

15. What is the best (most Depth) position on your team?
I am happier with my defense than my offense.

16. What are 3 things to watch for, out of your team in 2012?
1. At least one of my rookie WR's stepping up and making a difference.
2. Jermichael Finley having a big year which we thought was coming two years ago.
3. My team will do better than what everyone else thinks.

17. What record would you predict for your team for 2012?
I think 8 wins is a realistic line to set.

18. What record would you predict for your team in the year 2015?
Thats an eternity away...10 wins would be the realistic line.

Dealing with the competition
19. Which other team was the biggest pain in your ass?
None of them and all of them. Nobody stuck out to me.

20. Who was your MVP (Best Pick) of the draft?
I will say Randall Cobb.

21. Who do you feel has the strongest team right now?
Nobody. There are folks who may be in better positions than others but ultimately I cannot give credit to anyone for anything yet. I have seen many owners who either trade away their chances or will never get anywhere because they are unwilling to trade or pull the trigger to get the job done. Sitting still is not a recipe for victory IMO so I pity anyone who waits for it to come to them. I will be busy fighting for it.

The Minnesota Eternals have finally made a decision on which way to proceed. We have opted to face our uncertain future and whatever that entails for a "shot" at the 2012 title. We feel that playing it any other way would be weak and that is not what we are about. That said, the following moves have been made:

Quote :
***************************************************11/9/2012*********
Minnesota Eternals gave up:
Smith, Steve STL WR
Chaney, Jamar PHI LB
Connor, Dan DAL LB
Year 2013 Round 3 Draft Pick from Minnesota Eternals
Year 2014 Round 7 Draft Pick from Minnesota Eternals

Las Vegas Degenerates gave up:
Avery, Donnie IND WR
Blackburn, Chase NYG LB
Boley, Michael NYG LB

***************************************************11/9/2012*********
Minnesota Eternals gave up:
Edwards, Ray ATL DE
Year 2013 Round 4 Draft Pick from Minnesota Eternals

Sanibel Gadabouts gave up:
Sherman, Richard SEA CB

We are still in a negotiating mode and will certainly consider any offers brought our way. Hopefully we haven't brought too dark of a cloud down on our future.

The Minnesota Eternals wasted no time adding a player to their roster after acquiring RB DuJuan Harris a mere minutes after releasing PK Rian Lindell.

DuJuan Harris could surprise some folks this year in terms of playing time and production, especially for a player just sitting out there on the open market this late in the year.
