Quote :
Authorities say firefighters have extinguished a fire at Raymond James Stadium, the home to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Lt. William Ferguson of the Tampa Police Department said early Saturday that several motorists called 911 to report that the scoreboard at the stadium was on fire.

Ferguson says officers found that the speaker system above the stadium's north scoreboard was on fire. The Tampa Fire Department responded and put out the flames.

Police said the blaze appeared to be an electrical fire, The Tampa Tribune reported.

They said earlier in the off-season that they were going to do this; come balls out and spend. I hope for their sake Vincent Jackson works out better than many other FA WR signings from the past.

Offense looks much better assuming Freeman improves. Defense still looks shoddy especially if Talib continues on his idiotic trajectory.

How can you assume Freeman improves? I don't buy the sophmore slump theory. I think he was just bad last year because teams had some decent tape on him finally. Will he be as bad this year? Doubtful. But then again, there have been one year wonders in past. #cough Bradford #cough!

Free-agent defensive tackle Amobi Okoye has agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a source familiar with the negotiations told ESPN Chicago on Saturday night.
Okoye spent the 2011 season with the Chicago Bears after playing his first four seasons with the Houston Texans. In the 2007 NFL Draft,
Okoye was selected 10th overall at the age of 19, becoming the youngest
NFL player ever drafted in the first round. After a promising 5.5-sack
season in 2007, Okoye didn't reach that pass-rush production again.
Okoye had four sacks for the Bears last season.
Okoye's decision
to join the Buccaneers is somewhat of a surprise, considering general
manager Phil Emery said earlier in the week that he expected Okoye to
sign elsewhere.
"I think Amobi is trying to decide which
direction he's going," Emery said. "We've had conversations with him. So
far we haven't been able to work out a deal. I really believe that
Amobi is probably going in a different direction."

I'm one of the few people not ready to write off Blount. As rough as things were for him last year he improved in pass catching quite a bit. I think their D needs much more work than the O at this point.

If they don't draft a back now I really like Blount. It's nothing we didn't already to know but refreshing to hear it. I like that not every team is buying into the PASS mode. Although I suppose if Freeman was my QB I'd focus on rushing as well.

Quote :

While
the most of the NFL has gone pass-crazy, new Bucs coach Greg Schiano is
more old school. He likes punting. He likes running the ball.
"I
do believe at times the best way to play is keep-away, especially with
the quarterbacks we have in our division," Schiano said via the Tampa
Bay Times.

And when the Bucs can't keep the ball away, they will gladly punt.
"Punting is okay. We have a great punter (Michael Koenen),"
he said. "Scoring drives, they may be one series, they may be two
series, they may be three series. If you punt the ball and get the ball
back in better position, the drive just continues and you put it in the
end zone."
A scoring drive that lasts three series sounds like
something Marty Schottenheimer would come up with. We like everything we
hear and see regarding Schiano as a leader, but we've also heard
reservations from sources around the league regarding Schiano's
offensive philosophy.
He played things extremely close to the
vest at Rutgers, sometimes to his detriment. Despite the addition of an
expensive new No. 1 receiver, it doesn't sounds like that will change in
Tampa.

I don't know about Blount though. Expected so much more last season from him. But then again, I did from that whole team. Don't know if I think Blount will be the long term answer in Tampa. Maybe he can punch someone out to become relevant this year.

Draft recap from Bleacher Report:

Quote :

Al Bello/Getty Images

Draft Picks:

Round 1: SS Mark Barron (Alabama), RB Doug Martin (Boise State)

Round 2: OLB Lavonte David (Nebraska)

Round 3: None

Round 4: None

Round 5: ILB Najee Goode (West Virginia)

Round 6: CB Keith Tandy (West Virginia)

Round 7: RB Michael Smith (Utah State), FB Drake Dunsmore (Northwestern)

Grade: A-

Summary:

Drafting Mark Barron still doesn't sit well with me, but he's a hard-nosed football player who will separate the ball from receivers over the middle and at least they traded down two spots for him. Barron's not a playmaker though, so the feeling is he was overdrafted a bit.

Doug Martin and Lavonte David are two of my favorites in this class, and both are great fits for the Tampa defense. Same with fifth-rounder Najee Goode. He's a downhill, attacking linebacker who can make plays.

Fuck you for taking Martin you cocksuckers.

Now that I got that out of the way...

Great draft by the Bucs. I think they're head and shoulders the best Florida team (Although that's not saying much.)

I don't really like taking Barron over Claiborne. He's not a special safety prospect and I think it's too early to take nont-special safety prospect over a very solid CB. Hopefully they MEANT to take Barron over Claiborne and didn't get caught gambling by moving down and risking losing their guy for a 4th round pick.

Bucs DE Da'Quan Bowers will undergo surgery Friday to repair an Achilles' tendon torn in the offseason program on Thursday.

The Achilles is apparently the injury of 2012. Michael Bennett is now assured of a starting job opposite Adrian Clayborn, but the Bucs are severely lacking in depth at defensive end. Although Bowers started slowly last season while recovering from a microfracture procedure on his knee, he was one of the few bright spots down the stretch. His career is now at a crossroads after a second serious lower leg injury in as many seasons.

If you're a Freeman believer this guy is probably worth a stash in deeper leagues.

Quote :
Josh Freeman may have the deepest group of receivers in team history outside of the Super Bowl year when the Bucs had Keyshawn Johnson, Keenan McCardell and Joe Jurevicius when it comes to overall talent. "Obviously Mike Williams and Vincent Jackson are freaks...Another guy that is just unbelievable...is Preston Parker," Freeman said. Throughout the majority of OTAs, Parker and Stroughter have been running second team. Yet it's clear that Parker is establishing himself as the team's third receiver on the depth chart by doing some great work in the slot.

Analysis: Parker is coming off a breakthrough year in which he caught 40 passes for 554 yards and three touchdowns, with 25 of his catches going for first downs. The next step for Parker will be to perform better against man coverage this fall after thriving mostly on zone coverage in 2011.

On a run first team with VJax then Williams, Parker, Benn and Briscoe I'd say there is a) little value in the #3 and b) little chance of guessing who is the #3 for any given week

ESPN's Pat Yasinskas suggests that Mike Williams could lose his starting job in Tampa to Preston Parker.

Parker is more of a slot receiver, but he's shown well in spring practices and Williams is on notice under a new coaching staff after a miserable 2011 season. It's possible -- though not necessarily likely -- that Parker could emerge as the starting Z receiver opposite "X" Vincent Jackson, with Williams playing only in passing situations. In those, Parker would kick inside to the slot.

makes that recent Florida/Omega City trade look a little more interesting

I have loved the players the Bucs have acquired the last 2 or 3 years. In my opinion their success rests on the shoulders of Josh Freeman. I think he had an outstanding year 2 years ago, but looked absolutely terrible last season. He needs to turn it around this year or he and Mike Williams are both going to look like one year wonders.

Good thing Im not relying on Mike Williams. The only thing of value in my opinion that I gave up is 30 war bucks....minimal risk IMO.

DHB, Lance Moore, Emmanuel Sanders, Sanu, Avant, Baldwin, Mike Williams, Goodson, KSmith and Beanie all will be fighting for my last 2 starting spots every week..
