Washington Redskins TE Fred Davis (Achilles') was carted off the field Week 7 after suffering an Achilles' tendon injury and will not return to the game.

Sunday night, it was reported that Davis ruptured his Achilles and is out for the year. Converted wide receiver Niles Paul could get more looks in the passing as a tight end. He's worth watching in deep dynasty TE premium leagues. Former TE Chris Cooley is reportedly close to being signed by the team.

Really though break for Davis and the Skins here.  I was pretty high on him coming into the season.

The Washington Times expects free agent Fred Davis to reach the open market.

Analysis: Redskins GM Bruce Allen hinted Thursday that Davis remains in the team's plans, but it doesn't appear a deal is imminent as Davis makes his way back from a torn Achilles' tendon. Even though he's coming off major injury, the Redskins would be running a real risk of losing Davis if they let him reach free agency. Washington is well over the cap, and even a rehabbing Davis would likely draw strong interest in a league with an increasing thirst for pass-catching tight ends.

Not unexpected.

Free-agent TE Fred Davis (Redskins) has narrowed his list to sign with either the Washington Redskins or Cleveland Browns.

Talk about the Russian Roulette of fantasy value...

Resigns a 1-year deal with the Redskins. I think this was the best outcome for him fantasy-wise

Coach Mike Shanahan says Fred Davis (Achilles') will be held out of next week's minicamp. Analysis: Shanahan "doesn't want" Davis to practice and instead wants to "use caution" and hold the tight end out until training camp, even though he could play in a game if he had to next week. There's no reason for the Redskins to rush Davis, but it's clear he's on track to be on the field in July.

He's on my "intriguing" list. Very interested to see how he works with RGIII

I was a big fan of him when he took over for Chris Cooley, and he had a really good half a season that year... But since then, it's been injury after injury... I still hold out hope for him, but the hope is dwindling.

I don't see anything worth bothering with personally.

I don't think he's worth having. the TE to have on their roster is a rookie

I like Jordan Reed too. He can't block for shit though. That could be good/bad. Odds are he'll line up at WR more often than not. They have virtually no receiving options on that team outside of Garcon. It's a cluster of Alf/Davis/Hankerson/Morgan and any one of them could be the #2 in catches.

Updating a previous report, Washington Redskins TE Fred Davis tested his sprained ankle before the Week 3 game against the Detroit Lions, but he moved gingerly even when walking and was declared inactive. Analysis: Between Davis' injury issues and the play of Jordan Reed, Fred has fallen to the back burner of both the Redskins' passing game pecking order and the tight end fantasy rankings.
I really thought he had a shot at a bounce back season.

I dropped him in two leagues. If my 3rd league wasn't a salary cap league, I would drop him there too.

The NFL has suspended Davis indefinitely for violating the league's "policy and program of substances of abuse," according to csnwashington.com. Analysis: With rookie Jordan Reed emerging for the Redskins in 2013, Davis' role with the team was minimal, as he appeared in 10 games, recording just seven catches for 70 yards and one touchdown. Davis -- who was also suspended for the final four games of the 2011 season -- is slated to become an unrestricted free agent next month, and now under suspension again, his NFL career is on hold.

And his value hits zero.

Can a player's value be negative numbers?

what a fool. I thought he (without the substance abuse issues) really could have been a good TE.

I think that might be all she wrote for Davis' career... He is on thinner ice than Josh Gordon, problem is he is not anywhere close to the same level of talent as Gordon is. Who wants to take a chance on a 28 yr old TE who was never all that great to begin with...

Plus, it sounds like he is a lazy, unmotivated player from what I hear, there were reports of him missing team meetings or taking naps in team meetings... thats the reason he got benched last season and why the Skins were trying to trade him away. And the nail in the coffin is he is a pussy who is always injured...

Patriots signed TE Fred Davis to a one-year contract. Analysis: Davis spent last year suspended from the NFL following repeated violations of the substance abuse policy, a DUI and a domestic incident. The 29-year-old managed to get reinstated last week and now heads to New England as a poor bet to crack the final roster. The Patriots are loaded at tight end with Scott Chandler, Michael Hoomanawanui and Tim Wright behind Rob Gronkowski. They also used a sixth-round pick on Arkansas TE AJ Derby in the draft.
