Roshambo! Let's get a mad tournament going of this for those still waiting for teams.

Great suggestion.  We can stream it live pay per view all the way.  #roshambo

I’m not 100% on the ladder format in a dynasty league, but always open to new ideas. I run a redraft pyramid system A, B1-B2, C1-C2-C3 leagues and it works perfectly (other than poor owners dropping out and messing up the numbers which is why it’s a pyramid and not a straight ladder).

Can you explain a bit more about what that entails?

Premier League - 4 divisions of 4, bottom of each division is relegated

Division 1A - 10 team league, top 2 teams promoted to Premier League, bottom 2 relegated to Division 2
Division 1B - 10 team league, top 2 teams promoted to Premier League, bottom 2 relegated to Division 2

Division 2 - 4 divisions of 3, top team in each division promoted to Division 1

All leagues redraft. Strongly considering moving to a points based promotion format since record is more and more becoming an unfair way of deciding things with promotion/relegation involved. Ideally, we would have a straight 12-12-12-12 format with 2 up/2 down in each league but this idea was born out of an initial 16 team league with more demand than open spots and grown every year.

Now that's an idea I can get behind. Brad, can you find a way to get the Google Hangouts up and running again for this?

ha... Stupid Google Hangouts screwing us like they did.

Although, I think I can get them started back up with Skype. I tried earlier this year with Eric of Goon Squad fame and we talked for a session, but the recording you couldn't hear him. I had a number of people at work looking into it and never got it fixed.

But, I now have a new product for work that records Skype natively and I'm going to kick them off again. Skype is much more limited than Hangouts was though with more than 1 person being able to join -- well, more than 1 can join, it's just you can't record it and have it look the way Hangouts did.

Hangouts was cool. Wish it had caught on more.

I use Zoom for my grad school classes and online coaching. If the group is less than a few people I’m pretty sure it’s free and it can be recorded too if we’re looking for alternatives

So much going on here.......I know we said we want to hold back on the recruiting a bit and let the pieces fall as they may and it will sort itself out.

BUT---------

If you want the best owners KEEP recruiting. They have 45-90 days to prove their worth.

1/2 of them wont survive. (YEAH NEWBIES, I AM CALLING YOU OUT) Who am I .......THE CHAMP! Pay attention~

I do support the thoughts that if we have another solid 2018 season with little or no turnover to the Main league that we consider expanding it.

There are some VERY good Minor league owners that would fit in well.

Probably from all the good teachings going on by Carla and Matt in the Minors!

Newbies take note. Ben won Minor League POY and filled in for a main league team in the playoffs and made a nice run. If you need pointers or a mentor, talk to him about Bud Light, the Packers, being banned, and baseball. He would love to talk shop with you guys.

Interesting. Thanks! Always did think the European sports league structures were much more fun and interesting than the American, championship-only style.

Some more thoughts...

New folks...get involved. The active people around here are VERY noticeable to those of us who spend a lot of time here and are active ourselves. Others stick out big time for the exact opposite reason.

That goes for existing owners too.

Whether it be the recruitment, the interrogation or the next steps and how the Minor League is handled the goal is absolutely to funnel the best towards the main league. I forget who mentioned this earlier in the thread but I do think we're gonna evolve the expectations of the MInor League owners because the bare minimum expectations are too low and it's noticeable in a bad way when that's all someone has to offer.

Growing pains have been something we dealt with in the past and it was worth it. I think we're gonna iron out some stuff in the near future to really solidify how all of these things intertwine and work for the club.

Effort will always win out here.

I agree, it would really suck if someone is waiting for a spot in the minors and are super active and around all the time, only to look around and see a couple owners that only set a lineup and chime in once or twice a month. I really think the minor league owners should be held to the same posting standards as the main league. Otherwise, what's the point of them being here? There are plenty of other leagues out there for those that just wanna play fantasy and don't need the community that we provide here.

It's my fault...because I've wanted to have it all. I wanted a way for friends of the club or less active folks to still join us in some capacity but the reality is there is a certain amount of work for every individual on my end which I'm totally cool with...until I look over and realize that individual is doing next to nothing in the effort department.

You'd think that we have made it quite clear what this place is about and what we expect but clearly not enough because there is still a few souls that come in and want things to happen for them whilst bringing little or nothing. It confuses me but such is life.

I would love to snap my fingers and have everything perfectly laid out so there was no confusion but I guess it's gonna take me a few steps to get anywhere near that.

That ain't a cliche as I can attest to that too.  We still drive by our son's elementary school and remember events we had attended there, and now the damn kid is in college.   Shocked

I got married when I was 16, but think how my oldest daughter is now halfway through her junior year. She is older now then I was before I got married. As each day gets closer I get misty-eyed about how she is almost out of the house. The first time she received info on a college was hard to swallow.

Hold on for as long as possible.

It's tough because this place is so unique and not like any other that it's hard to gauge how even the biggest FF fanatic would fare in this environment.  Don't know if you recall but I was completely silent and never posted once during the entire first year of RWTC.  Never thought of myself as a "forum guy" and just watched what was going on here to see if it was something I could get involved with.  Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Ben took a similar approach.  So I guess what I'm saying is that it takes a little longer for some folks and they can't "jump right in" like others can even though they may be a good fit somewhere down the road.  Who knows - I may have never stepped up if I hadn't beaten Russ's ass and gained the confidence to start participating. laughing   Believe it or not, I even perused some of the older threads as part of my research and that may have helped as well. tongue

Yep, I was the same way. I basically only participated in the RWTC thread that first year. The second year, I ventured out a bit once Greg and started a little rivalry. Fuck, I think I had like 200 posts before the beginning of last season and now I'm on the verge of being in the top 24 overall. I will say that once I figured out how to "watch" topics and get email notifications my activity went up like 4000%. Some people may not like getting that many emails, but it's right on my phone and it's part of my OCD to delete my emails, but I have to click the link first to see what was posted on RW.

Not speaking from a personal view because I'll talk to anyone but I think forums of this kind tend to keep new people in scout mode for a while. Getting a feel for the other owners without offending people or putting your foot in your mouth. Plus, some people just like to read the threads for entertainment and may not feel their comments would add anything useful to the conversation so they just won't say anything. shrug

Getting a feel for the other owners without offending people or putting your foot in your mouth. Plus, some people just like to read the threads for entertainment and may not feel their comments would add anything useful to the conversation so they just won't say anything. shrug

Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words . . .

If you know of someone that is active like we are, send em our way.  Warn them if they're not gonna bring it to not bother though.  High expectations for 2018.

Who knows - I may have never stepped up if I hadn't beaten Russ's ass and gained the confidence to start participating. laughing   Believe it or not, I even perused some of the older threads as part of my research and that may have helped as well. tongue

Brian (Showboats) talked to me before he bowed out and his hangup was the "forum guy" thing. Him and I talk almost daily on the phone or via text as does a few others in my other league I am in with him and I tried to tell him from my perspective the forum here is the same thing just a different medium, but I respect his decision of bowing out knowing he wasn't going to meet what is going on here.

I'm sure others out there are in the same boat, great potential owners that would not only bring insight, competitiveness and value to the league but either get overwhelmed with the Awesomeness of this forum or just see it as something they cant do and therefore they miss out on being in our community. Not bad on them, not bad on what I think RW is trying to do, just not the right fit.

I know when I first was exposed to RW I was overwhelmed. I wanted to be a part of this so I just jumped right in, and now I wouldn't want it any other way.
