He's going to pull a Moreno - go somewhere where he's not going to be clearly fantasy valuable, but will be good enough to assassinate someone else's value.

It is amazing how the value of running backs changes so quickly especially once they hit 28 years old and above. Johnson is still a good running back, but it is hard to figure out a place where he would really fit in at his price tag.

Ive heard lots of teams thrown out there as starter or committee back so he is gonna snipe someones value:
Jets (have cap space)
Falcons (stephen jackson?)
Bills (c.j. spiller? / fred jackson age)
Giants (wilson?)
Raiders (acronym joke)
Cowboys (Murray insurance)
Broncos
Rams (Fisher connection)
Redskins
And
Bears or Vikings purely as backup doubtful hell take backup money though

That would be really dumb on their part - they are so far away from competing, wasting $$ on a veteran RB makes no sense
Its not like he's a killer pass protector or mentor for a young QB!

This is a decent landing spot for CJ, certainly the best he could hope for given his late arrival on the FA market. While he won't be a feature back, he easily takes over as the lead back for the Jets. He should be able to continue to produce for his fantasy owners. This really hurts the value of Bilal Powell and Chris Ivory.

I havent heard too much about CJ taking over as lead back. I think Jets prefer Ivory as the banger and goal line back. I dont think CJ gets over 15 carries per game.

CJ is a much better  back than Ivory.   Best case scenario for Ivory is a true RBBC timeshare.    But the Jets wouldn't be paying CJ $4M a year for the next couple of seasons if they didn't intend on using him plenty.   Ivory is injury prone and overrated,  the Jets wouldn't have brought him in if they were comfortable with Powell and Ivory,  and I think that means they will give him first crack at taking the lead role...

Jets have the right idea. Give Geno enough decent RBs to hand off to and his interception rate will go down.

Ivory between the tackles, short yardage, early downs etc. CJ in other situations is my guess

Are you suggesting CJ is going to be a 3rd down back?  If so,  thats a good one.   I can get on board with Ivory in a limited short yardage role,   but CJ has shown he can be an early down back,  he's been an every down back,  his toughness and durability are underrated qualities.

For me,  I just don't see the Jets spending roughly $4m a year to bring in a guy and let him support or play second fiddle to somebody like Ivory who is clearly the lesser back.   I could possibly see a 50/50 split,  but that is best case scenario for Ivory.

Chris, I think you are giving too much credit to Johnson and not enough credit to Ivory. ivory may be injury prone and may not be flashy, but he gets it done. Ivory had his worst yards per carry year last season and he still averaged 4.6 ypc. Johnson hasn't done that since 2009 and was at 3.9 ypc last season with a much improved OLine. I thin Ivory gets the majority (60-70%?) of the 1st and 2nd downs along with 100% of the goal line carries. Of course, if Ivory gets hurt that changes anything, but I think both of these guys have limited fantasy value if they both stay healthy. I'd rather have Ivory for fantasy, although it's close.

I think Ivory is overrated but I also don't think CJ is an everydown guy (not unless your offense is setup to have runs of -1,2,1,3,65,-3,-2,3,3,2 etc)  Laughing
I don't mean third down guy I just mean plays not designed to bang it up the middle or get tough yards. I think it will be a ~50/50 type split while they are healthy just different kinds of plays...

Then again this is the Jets so who the heck knows

As Jason's post suggests if you read into the numbers, Ivory lead the league in yards after contact last year. He's a sustaining, competent runner. I think he's a better fit for what the Jets need, frankly. Johnson's carries will look something like: 2, 4, -1, 3, 3, 0, 56. He's a sporadic home run hitter at this point.

I think he'll outcarry Ivory, but I think it's going to be a pretty true timeshare.

I heard CJ on the radio this morning. He sounds like he can barely put a couple of words together to make a sentence. He was trying to sell everyone on the radio that the Jets are a playoff team and that they are a winning franchise. Its gonna be a long year.

Love this, spot on. CJ does a Trent Richardson imitation 89% of the time, then will rip off 1-2 runs of 40+ per game. Although it'll be interesting to see if he can do so more frequently with the OL in New York.

Chris Johnson underwent stem-cell treatment surgery on his left knee in the offseason. Analysis: We knew Johnson had surgery, but up until now it had been classified as a mere scope. When Johnson tore his meniscus in Week 3 last season, he says he lost a ton of cartilage. Injecting stem cells -- taken from a bone marrow sample near Johnson's pelvis -- into the area "might be able to help rebuild that cartilage." The hope is that the stem cells will help rebuild the tissue in Johnson's knee. Stem-cell treatment is becoming very common among all pro athletes

Nobody cares but...........................

ESPN Jets reporter Rich Cimini says the Jets will probably cut Chris Johnson before his option bonus is due Feb. 16.
The Jets can save $3.5M against the cap by dumping Johnson. It should be a no-brainer to move on from a part-time speed back, one that will turn 30 in September, is behind Chris Ivory on the depth chart and carries some off-field headaches. If Johnson is indeed cut, he will find a very cold market and would have to settle for a role-player salary in order to stay in the league. The artist formerly known as CJ2K produced a 155-663-1 line in his first year as a Jet.

Geez...I bashed this guy back in his big year because he had holes blocked for him that any jackoff would have had a huge season and I said he wasn't "THAT good" but I also didn't think he was "THAT bad" but he fell off a cliff. Oh well.

The Jets declined the second-year option on Johnson's contract, making him a free agent, ESPN New York's Rich Cimini reports. Analysis: Johnson underwhelmed in his lone season with the Jets, running for just 663 yards (4.3 YPC) and one touchdown while catching 24 passes for 151 yards and a score. He'll turn 30 in September and is nowhere near the player he used to be, but he ought to find work of some sort if he looks for it. With that said, Johnson's chances of earning much in the way of pay or playing time don't seem good. There's a big surplus of running back talent in both the draft and free agency.

Buh bye.
