Lions DT Nick Fairley was arrested Sunday morning on suspicion of driving under the influence and attempting to elude police in Mobile (AL).

Fairley was pulled over just before 1AM after unsuccessfully trying to get away from the cops. Police subsequently added tickets for reckless driving, no proof of insurance, and having an open container. The arrest is Fairley's second in the last two months, and he will now be subject to the league's personal-conduct policy. Fairley was placed in the NFL's substance abuse program earlier this month. He is very likely facing a multi-game suspension.

Uh-oh.  doh

MLive.com's Kyle Meinke believes Lions DT Nick Fairley's weight had reached "at least" 320 by late last season.
Analysis: Meinke observed Fairley playing with a "sizable belly." Fairley is listed at 6'3/291 on the Lions' website and measured 6-foot-3 7/8, 291 at the 2011 Combine. GM Martin Mayhew recently reiterated he wants Fairley's work ethic to improve. "I'd like to see his commitment to the offseason program improve, and see him on a consistent basis," said Mayhew. "It's voluntary, but if he's not training with us, I'd like to see him training somewhere."

As a closet Lions fan I have a bit of a crush on anyone on this team. I've always liked his talent though and hope he gets his head in the game.

ESPN Chicago's Michael C. Wright reports Lions DT Nick Fairley sprained his MCL and PCL and will be sidelined 4-5 weeks.

We'd call that good news after SI's Peter King offered a grim report earlier Monday morning, hinting it could be a season-ender. The Lions will hope to get Fairley back for the stretch run and in time for a playoff push. It's also good news for Fairley on a personal level, as he's in a contract year and could ill-afford a lengthy rehab. In the meantime, the Lions will turn to C.J. Mosley and Caraun Reid next to Ndamukong Suh.

Apparently he's on his way out of Detroit. They're moving on.

Not sure Fairley ever really showed up in Detroit. This guy seems to be either hurt or in trouble most of the time. Perhaps a new zip code will do him good, or perhaps it will just be more of the same ole same ole from this underachiever.

I think he'd do really well in Cincy... Line up next to Atkins.. Have Coach Lewis who was amazingly able to screw Vontaze Burfict's head on straight... That and Fairley seemed to start to get it this past year by hiring a nutritionist/chef so he wasn't junk 24/7. Think I read where he had lost a boatload of weight and before his injury, he was playing well. I think most Lions fans are bummed that he's gone. Well, bummed that the Lions didn't exercise the reasonable option price tag (5m).

I liked Fairley but I didn't love him. We got Ngata. We'll be fine.

They're only scary when Fairly is in the lineup. he's got all the talent in the world but he's a major meathead. He's also a huge injury risk. Nothing has changed since his days at Auburn

Enlarged heart...at least one Dr. recommended immediate retirement.

Quote :
Saints placed DT Nick Fairley (heart) on the reserve/NFI list.
Fairley is expected to miss all of 2017, and his career is in grave danger. Per the New Orleans Times-Picayune, the decision was made after consulting with "several doctors." Fairley has received at least three opinions on his heart condition. It's bitterly disappointing news after Fairley appeared in all 16 games for the first time in six NFL seasons last year. It's also a major blow to a Saints defense that remained woefully ineffective in 2016.

Sucks for him but I'd rather see him retire and continue his life outside football then die on the field or in practice.

Yeah, stinks for Fairley.. He always seemed like a fun loving guy during his time in Detroit. I hope he learned his lesson over the years as he seems like the type of dude who'd be first in line at the THC clinic the second he wasn't getting tested any longer.

I hate to see him go but I agree he should go ahead and retire, no need to risk further injury or even death.
