J. Practice Squads Empty
PostSubject: J. Practice Squads   J. Practice Squads EmptyWed Jan 25, 2017 11:15 am

J.1 The Practice Squad (PS)

A. Each RWDOC  franchise has a PS that may contain up to 10 players.  Myfantasyleague.com refers to it as a Taxi Squad.

B. Drafted players only may be placed on the PS during the contract assignment period that takes place between the end of the draft and July 31st each year.  So long as the player is drafted that year, it does not matter if the drafted player is a rookie or a veteran in the NFL.  While players picked up via waivers or other means after the draft are allowed new contracts, they will not be eligible for the PS.

C. Players drafted in the 1st round are not eligible for the PS.

D. A player may stay on the PS indefinitely.

E. PS players have 0 year contracts.  They do not count against a team’s contract cap.

F. When a player comes off the PS (promoted, poached, dropped or traded), they may never return to the PS.  The only exception is via trade covered in Bylaw J.5.A.

G. Releasing these players comes at no cost.  They have no contract.

H. Any player that is not placed on the PS by their owner by the contract deadline will receive a 1 year deal on the active roster.

J.2 Promotion from the Practice Squad

A. Promotion of these players to the active roster can occur at any time.

B. Promoting a PS player to your active roster on a one (1) year deal is FREE.

C. Promoting a PS player to your active roster with a multi-year deal comes at a cost:
10WBs: 2 year deal
15WBs: 3 year deal
20WBs: 4 year deal
25WBs: 5+ year deal (You may sign players to any contract you wish)
...except during the CONTRACT ASSIGNMENT PERIOD that takes place between the end of our annual RFA session and the July 31st contract deadline.  During this period, PS players may be given any contract free of charge by the owning team.

***When promoting a PS player during the CONTRACT ASSIGNMENT PERIOD, the contract is due at the deadline set for all players during that time frame.

D. When promoting a PS player to your active roster during the playing season, a contract must be announced within 24 hours. Failure to announce a contract within 24 hours will result in the owner being fined and the player will be given a 1 year deal.

J.3 Poaching

A. Poaching compensation:
All drafted players have the specific pick used to draft them notated on the rosters report.

In order to "poach" a player from another franchise's PS, one must offer a compensatory pick AT LEAST ONE ROUND better than the one used to draft the player originally.

If a poaching owner is offering the minimum required pick, they must offer that round pick from the next draft.

If a poaching owner does not own the minimum required pick from the next upcoming draft, they may offer a future pick that is at least two rounds better than the one used to draft the player originally.  (Added January 2021)
(ie. A 7th round player usually requires a 6th round pick to poach, but due to the poacher using a pick further out than the next draft the minimum qualifying pick needs to be a 5th round pick.)

Poachers CAN offer better/additional draft picks to increase the odds of a successful poach so long as the aforementioned minimum requirements continue to be met.

ONLY DRAFT PICKS may be offered as compensation in poaching attempts...no players, no warbucks, etc.

---Ex1. A player drafted at 7.06 can be poached  for NO LESS than a 6th round pick in the next draft.
---Ex2. A player drafted at 5.08 can be poached for a 4th round pick in the next draft  -OR- a 3rd round pick (of future draft) + any round pick/s the poacher offers if they feel it increases their chances of a successful poach
---Ex3. A poaching team may offer a 2nd round pick from any draft for a 6th round pick if they feel it increases their chances of a successful poach
---Ex4. A player drafted at 7.06 CANNOT be poached for a 7th round pick by itself in any draft year
---Ex5. A player drafted at 4.03 CANNOT be poached for a 2nd round pick from the future if the poacher owns a 3rd round pick in the next draft
---Ex.6. If a poaching team is using a future pick, they may use one from any future draft, so long as it continues to meet the aforementioned poaching requirements.

B. Any team may attempt to poach a player from another franchise’s practice squad (within their conference) so long as the poaching team will not go over the contract cap and has an appropriate supply of WBs.  The owner must declare (in a specified thread) their intent to sign another team’s PS player, the contract they are offering that player (all costs apply) and the draft pick compensation they are paying that team for the player.
Poached PS players contracts come at the following cost:
5WBs: 1 year deal (no cost to owning team to block)
10WBs: 2 year deal
15WBs: 3 year deal
20WBs: 4 year deal
25WBs: 5+ year deal (You may sign players to any contract you wish but you must announce it)

C. Poaching a PS player can happen year round, except between the end of the playing season and December 31st at 11:59:59pmCT. (Added January 2021) This is done to eliminate potential ties in claiming players right after a season ends and allows owners a brief period to call up their own players without pressure.  On January 1st, poaching season is open again.

* Recently drafted players that have not yet been given contracts or placed on their team’s PS cannot be poached.

D. When an owner indicates intent to poach, the player in question may not be traded (or released) to avoid the situation or to pass the situation onto someone else.

J.4 Responding to a Poaching Attempt
The owning team has 72 hours (3 days) to respond (except in the event of an extended absence where prior notification was given to the league in which case the RWP will reach out or determine what a fair window of time is based on the situation involved) to do one of the following...

A. The owning team can block this "poaching" by activating and signing the player to the contract specified by the poacher (no more, no less).  *Even during the contract assigment period, blocking a poach attempt requires the owning team to pay for the contract in order to block the attempt. *

B. The owning team can ship the player to the "poaching" team in exchange for the draft pick compensation specified.

C. Not respond in which case option B will be carried out by the league office and the owner failing to respond will be fined.

J.5 Trading PS Players
When trading PS players, MFL will place these players on the active roster.  The following terms apply to the RWDOC ...

A. Following a trade that includes a PS player, the team receiving the PS player has 24 hours from the time stamp of the trade to place the PS player on their practice squad.

B. If 24 hours passes and the PS player has not been placed on the practice squad -OR- a contract has not been announced (see costs), the player will receive a 1 year deal at no cost.

C. If a drafted player that is PS-eligible is traded with a 0 year deal during the contract assignment period, the team receiving the player is afforded the same rights to place that player on their practice squad or give the player a contract. (January 2024)

J.6 Other Notes

A. If a PS player is dropped from the MFL database the player will be released from your PS.

B. PS players are not eligible to be placed on injured reserve as they do not have a contract.
