PostSubject: Richmond Rapids (Jason)   Richmond Rapids (Jason) EmptyWed Mar 16, 2016 10:18 pm

1 Who are you? Where do you live?

I am Jason Wright and currently live just outside of Richmond, VA.  I grew up about a half hour from here but have lived outside of Washington DC for the last 20 years.  I am enjoying living in the much less busy (and way less traffic) city.  I may end up migrating further South.

2 Tell us about your fantasy football experience, including the types of leagues you play in and where they are hosted.

I have been playing FF for almost 20 years.  I have five redraft leagues (Counting this one) and currently 9 dynasty leagues.  This is my only redraft IDP league but 5 of my dynasty leagues are IDP.  I used to be in a few other IDP dynasty leagues but they folded over the last year or two.

I've been in Zealots for 10 years.  I started as an owner and over the years have been a commissioner, a czar and a Vice Lord over there.  I was in charge of rules changes for 4 years and still participate on their Rules Committee.

I run two other dynasty leagues and have run redraft leagues before.

3 Why do you want to be part of Roster Wars...what drew your interest?

I was invited by my friend Coin Flip (and know a few others here too!).  I love the idea of a small community competing against each other.  I've been a part of Zealots for 10 years and though they have had their ups and downs they also have a great community of players to compete against.  The rules look fun and challenging and I'm looking forward to competing against you guys here and getting to know those owners I don't already know.

4 How much time in a typical week do you spend on your fantasy football hobby?

More than my wife would prefer.  :)  In the off-season, I probably spend 2-3 months getting ready for my rookie drafts.  I watch a ton of college football so I'm already pretty familiar with most of the prospects.  This also helps me get a good idea before the NFL draft which rookies I like or don't like and how deep I feel the rookie draft will be (helps me with trading or trading for rookie draft picks).  In the fall during the season, I spends hours on FF.  Sunday night, I submit an initial lineup for next week.  Monday and Tuesday, I do waivers for my leagues.  Wednesday, I will update my waivers and go back over my initial lineup submission especially to see if there are any question marks for players in the Thursday game.  Friday and Saturday, I make my final lineup decisions unless there are injuries requiring me to wait for Sunday morning.  Sunday morning I put the final touches on my lineups and then watch games with my kids all day.  Also spend some time on Friday and Sunday doing a little Draftkings and Fanduel.

5 Talk about a favorite memory or crazy fantasy football related story.

There's been several over the years.  One that comes to mind though is  I won a dynasty IDP championship in week 16 one year when my opponent's QB lost -2 yards on a kneel down play on Monday Night Football.  Before that play I was losing my 0.1 points and after I won by 0.1 points.

6 What do you think members of your other leagues would say about you as an owner?

LOL I don't know.  I'll let Coin Flip, Pete, or Matt answer this one.  Just kidding I think they would say I'm very active and competitive.  Those that play in multiple leagues with me will also quickly learn my favorite players. :)  I don't think I've ever missed a lineup submission in any league of any year.  I'm very active on the waiver wire.  I love to discuss trades but to be honest I make a lot less trades now than say 3-4 years ago.  I believe the main reason for this is everyone wants to "win" trades instead of helping their team and many owners hurt themselves by drawing these lines in the sand.  I try to make sure I'm getting "my guys" when trading and don't worry about whether I get market value based on another website's rankings.  I'll be honest and say one negative is I don't always respond to trade offers if they are clear lowballs.  For example, if you're offering me Seth Roberts and Kamar Aiken for DeAndre Hopkins (actual offer received today) I am likely to ignore it because that's not a starting point.  I usually see it in email and laugh and mean to go back later and reject but sometimes I forget because it's not worth thinking about that offer.

7 Anything else you would like to add?

I don't have a favorite NFL team.  My wife is from Pittsburgh so I will pull for the Steelers but I won't claim to be a fan.  On Sunday's, I root for players not teams though there are teams I like more than others and certainly ones I dislike.

I do love college football.  I grew up going to Virginia home games with my parents but my favorite team is Georgia Tech.  I started rooting for them in the late 80's when Bobby Ross was their coach.  Ross used to coach high school football in Virginia way back in the day and I knew some people that knew him.  Then two friends went to GT to play golf and somehow I converted then.  My parents are still bitter I like GT and not UVA.  LOL.   I went to James Madison, who has been a really good FCS team including a championship 10 years ago.  JMU hosted College Gameday this year and it was a great experience for anyone that hasn't ever attended in person.

Two other cool NFL related stories.  My sons played flag football two years ago in Ashburn, VA.  I volunteered to be the assistant coach.  Turns out the head coach is Tony Wyllie who is the Senior VP of Communications or something like that with the Redskins.  He and Dan Snyder texted and talked often!  Honestly, he is one of the calmest and nicest guys I've ever met in little league sports.  But one Monday night, the Redskins and Cowboys played in Dallas and Colt McCoy had a good game (relatively speaking of course).  After the game someone tried to interview McCoy and Wyllie was caught on national TV pushing a reporter and yelling "NO MEANS NO".  I gave him so much crap for that.  :)

My other story was one day my wife and kids were grocery shopping.  My oldest was wearing a Tim Tebow T-shirt.  He's very outgoing kid and apparently started talking to some guy in the produce section.  The guy told him that he was friends with Tebow and then somehow they started talking about homeschooling (we homeschool our kids).  Ten minutes later, my wife finally gets in the conversation and after introductions realizes she is talking to Shaun Alexander.  They exchanged phone numbers and she is very good friends with his wife to this day.  I've hung out with him a couple of times and he's a very down to earth just great guy.  All of his football stuff is in his basement and not all over his house and he will talk football but I try not to be "that guy" around him.

Oh yeah, I grew up playing backyard football with James Farrior.  I think he's responsible for some pain and injuries I still feel.  He was always bigger, stronger, and faster than the rest of us.

8 Are you joining to be a friend of the league or do you you intend to start out as a prospect?

I am joining to get to know other owners and participate in the redraft league.

Welcome, Jason!

Yeah, I'll vouch for his participation and his character.
He's a good friend and a good man.
I'm sure he'd fit right in to the main league, too.
He speaks what is on his mind like most of ya. lol3

I always did find it goofy that ya don't have a favorite NFL team though. thinking2

It's tough to root for an NFL team in that area. The only real team from that area packed up in some Mayflower vans about 35 years ago! F Irsay!

Hi there, Jason.  Glad you're here.  Carla is the only one that gets lowball offers around here but of course that's just because she's a girl.  Not like we have the option of treating her like a human fantasy football competitor.  laughing  Anyway, I'm sure you'll have no problem meeting the requirement of responding to all offers if/when you get a franchise.  Make yourself at home!
