The Baltimore Ravens' contract extension talks with QB Joe Flacco are going slow because of their lack of salary cap space and the two sides has not been able to agree on what he is worth at this point.

I don't think I can see this going well. Someone who thinks they are the best player in the NFL when they are clearly not is someone that will not get what they think they deserve.

There is no way that Joe Flacco is delusional enough to think that he deserves top 5 QB money... I think.

He is according to this:

Flacco believes he's NFL's "best" QB

Quote :
Aaron Rodgers. Tom Brady. Eli and Peyton Manning. Drew Brees. Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco and his agent believe he's right there with the elite class of NFL quarterbacks. "I assume everybody thinks they're a top-five quarterback," Flacco said when asked where he thinks he ranks among NFL quarterbacks. "I mean, I think I'm the best. I don't think I'm top five, I think I'm the best. I don't think I'd be very successful at my job if I didn't feel that way. I mean, c'mon? That's not really too tough of a question."

Analysis: It's good to have confidence but temper your expectations for Flacco and the Baltimore Ravens passing game in 2012. Flacco is definitely a serviceable fantasy quarterback but he doesn't have the accolades, Super Bowl Rings or elite statistics that Rodgers, Brady, Brees and both of the Mannings have.

Did the Saints play the Ravens if so maybe they hit Flacco on the head a couple of times so now he thinks he is one of the best QB. Shocked

Of course he is delusionial enough to think he deserves top 5 money. He does play in Baltimore and that high powered offense is next to impossible to stop.

Joe Flacco thinking he is the best QB is ridiculous. That's good mentality to be confident but you can't tell the WHOLE freaking world that as they will think you're arrogant and all this shit. It was a horrible move for him to tell his thoughts to the media and should just keep it in his head as a motivational thing

No way Flacco should make any more than Alex Smith. Yeah I said it.

They didn't belong in the Manning chase. No way Harbaugh would give the offensive control to Peyton that Peyton would command. Just wasn't an option in my opinion. Now Houston on the other hand... RIDICULOUS they didn't even bring Peyton in for a visit.

If I were the Ravens, I'd let Flacco play out this year while drafting a QB early. I don't think it likely that he plays so well that his price goes up a lot.
The real problem for the Ravens is that the defense isn't quite as dominant as before and Flacco hasn't pulled the offense up enough to compensate.

Exactly. There is no reason to do a new deal with Flacco this year. The guy is INSANE if he thinks he's going to get top QB money.

The following draft recap is from Bleacher Report:

Quote :
Draft Picks

Round 1: None

Round 2: OLB Courtney Upshaw (Alabama), OT Kelechi Osemele (Iowa State)

Round 3: RB Bernard Pierce (Temple)

Round 4: OG Gino Gradkowski (Delaware), S Christian Thompson (South Carolina State)

Round 5: CB Asa Jackson (Cal Poly)

Round 6: WR Tommy Streeter (Miami, FL)

Round 7: DT DeAngelo Tyson (Georgia)

Grade: B

Summary

The Ravens always do a good job playing the board, and by trading back in Round 1, they set themselves up for 2013 while still getting a potential star player in Courtney Upshaw. He'll be an immediate contributor at outside linebacker.

Kelechi Osemele is athletic enough to play guard or tackle and could fill the need created when Ben Grubbs left for Baltimore. Pierce, Gradkowski and Thompson are solid, tough players who will all fill roles as depth players.

Pierce is a nice backup replacement for Williams. They got fantastic value in Upshaw and I really liked their draft in general.

The scuttlebut is that the Patriots scooped them on Hightower, who the Ravens wanted as a Ray Lewis heir apparent. The last time the Patrits did this to the Ravens was for some guy named Rob Gronkowski.

Baltimore Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs has torn his Achilles and will likely miss the 2012 season, a source with knowledge of the situation said Thursday.

Suggs was working out and doing drills in Arizona, which is his normal offseason plan. It's a huge blow for the pass-rush hungry Ravens, who will be without the reigning defensive player of the year.

OUCH! Really sucks for the Ravens.

The dreaded Achilles' tendon tear has struck the Baltimore Ravens again after outside linebacker Mike McAdoo suffered the injury during an OTA session on Thursday, the Carroll County Times reported.

McAdoo underwent surgery on Friday and is expected to miss the entire 2012 season.

McAdoo -- a 6-foot-7, 245-pound pass rusher -- was in the mix for a role with the Ravens this season after All-Pro linebacker Terrell Suggs partially tore his Achilles' tendon during a private workout in April.

Indeed. I've always felt that the D compensated for Flacco. If he thinks that he's the top QB this will be the year he has to prove it.

I think their D will be just fine. A strong middle will compensate for a lot.. Ngata, ray Ray and Ed Reed... Plus they have nice corners, I think they'll be just fine again this year. we've already seen that switching coordinators doesn't have a lot of effect. I think the first time you'll notice a decline is when Ray finally calls it quits. Dude will not allow his defense to suck. He just won't.

Ravens second-round OG Kelechi Osemele has been sidelined "for weeks" with a quadriceps injury.

Analysis: Osemele is expected to be healthy for training camp, but he's missed valuable reps during offensive install. His injury helps explain the signing of veteran Bobbie Williams, who received an $800,000 signing bonus and first-team reps in Tuesday's practice.

Ravens agreed to terms with LB Daryl Smith, formerly of the Jaguars.

It's a low-risk, high-upside signing for GM Ozzie Newsome as he looks to replace Ray Lewis and Dannell Ellerbe. A groin injury limited Smith to just two games last season, but the Jaguars' all-time leading tackler was still highly effective in 2011. He's undoubtedly on the downside of his career, but should go a long way toward fortifying the Ravens' inside linebacker corps as long as he's healthy. After being panned in the early days of free agency, the Ravens are arguably more talented now than they were in 2012.

If Smith is 80% of the linebacker he was, real solid signing by the Ravens. I'm pretty shocked they didn't go after Karlos Dansby while was was available or someone like Osi Omenyuria... But Smith should be decent for them if he can stay on the field.

Someone needs to tell Flacco, even with his contract, he isn't Brees, Manning or Brady. Really? They threw the ball 50 times. 50. Flacco is not that QB. Then, they only run the ball 9 times. With Rice and Pierce. They will not win a lot of games that way.

I think they have been looked at so greatly because they are fairly consistent franchise. They have only been around 20 years (since the move), and have won 56% of their games, have been very good at home, and have 2 Super Bowls in their short existence.

Ozzie gets too much love, but he has not been horrible. As you looked at the individual players, they have had a lot of injuries in the past 3 years. If you can find 3 starters, 1 being a stud in each draft you are doing really well. the failure rate is way higher than the success rate.

Yeah I totally agree. I have seen in GM rankings like top 2-3 which is nuts.

But in this league, consistency is king, there are a lot of people who just fail miserably at that job so someone who maintains a certain level of success is regarded to highly I guess.
