I am in the process of taking part in another league with Decatur that has a similar auction format and the same limit on players on the board. The auction just started 90 minutes ago. Great practice.

This auction is a little different in that you can only have 3 players max that you started bids on so you have to wait until the player the player you started a bid on is sold before you can propose a new player. It almost forces you to open bids exclusively on players you want or ones you think will be sold quickly. I find it very limiting.

Does anyone know/remember what MFL site will look like when we have an auction going on for each conference?

I think it hurts the flow if we are at 26-28 on the board for hours waiting for owners to place bids. Our system is much better. It doesn't matter who starts the bids it matters who wins them. Kind of hard to win them if you are waiting for everyone to place them.

I like our system as well. It rewards the owners that are paying attention and are active, they get to put the players they want on the auction block.

I don't remember how MFL works with max bids.
e.g.
I have $100 available. I put max bid of $75 on player A. Player A shows $1 as current bid.
Can I now bid up to $99 or only $25 on other players?

I wasn't trying to complain about our system as much as get your take on your comment about having to nominate players you wanted. Everything you just said can be used a defense for the auction linked as well could it not.

On the MFL site, I have added two modules on the front page for during this auction period. On the left, current auctions which should only show you who is actively being bidded on in your conference. On the right, your roster for quick reference. You can click on AUCTION BID either on the bottom of the left side module or even further down on the right where the buttons I made are sitting.

As for the way MFL operates and I will cover this again during my show next week...

MFL will calculate your money spent + amount bid on player you are currently leading and show you the difference. If you have $100 and won a player for $10, that leaves you $90. If you are then currently high bidder on VJAX for $50 the system will show that you have $40 available to you.

Now, you may decrease your bid on a player who you currently are the high bidder but you can't back out of the player. What this means is say I bid $95 on MJD and currently hold him as high bidder at $65. Later I realize I need access to some cash or I don't want him as badly as I thought. I can go and decrease my max bid on him to as low as "$1 over current". In this case, even though I am high bidder at 65, I could go bid $66 on him to change my max bid from 95 to 66.

Decreasing your max bid is VERY helpful especially if you get in over your head on a player and are then like...

OHSHIT! Better lower my bid and pray someone else takes one stab at him.

So you can only nominate 3 at a time - does this mean you can also only be the high bidder on 3 at a time?

I realize I could be wrong but I am 99.9% sure I am not that you can be high bidder on whoever you want but they only allow you to nominate 3 and until one of those 3 falls off the board you may not nominate another.

I do believe that an auction does have to have some structure. I had fun in a free for all auction but don't think it is the right answer. There should be a maximum number of players on the board at one time but this limit on number of players you can start bids on is for the birds.

Thanks for the pointer about decreasing max bid. That addresses my concern.
For the fantasy football site I coded, I put some fancy logic in to reduce max bids automatically but it would probably have been easier to just allow reducing the max instead. Oh well.

Well I got Foster which has calmed me for now. It just irks me that we have been riding between 3-9 players short of the max for a while now. I want to get most of my important players locked in before Roster Wars starts.

It's a little different though since that league is only start 17 not 22 and the scoring is not weighed the same. QB scoring is stupid crazy.
