We'll know this by the time our auction begins, so I don't mind saying it here, but I think BAL is going to bring in another RB as insurance/backup that will pose a pigger threat to Rice's dynasty value than did Williams and McGahee.

That sounds like the same mess that Jacksonville was saying about bringing in someone to spell MJD and that never happened. We will see though because that would be a good idea.

(FFToday) The Baltimore Ravens signed Ray Rice to a new five-year contract Monday worth roughly $40 million. Had Rice not signed, he would have played the 2012 season under the $7.7 million franchise tag tender. Instead, he will get $17 million this year and $8 million in 2013. Analysis: Rice is the unquestioned focal point of the Ravens offense and will continue to be so barring injury for at least the next two years. He will be a top-five fantasy pick in most redraft leagues this summer.

Good for him, nice job RAY

Baltimore Ravens RB Ray Rice said he has to be smart about not trying to do too much as he gets older. "Going into Year 6, you have to be smart," Rice said. "I know I have a lot of football left, but the name of the game is longevity for me now. I've proved I can be a Pro Bowl player and I still know I can go out there and make many more Pro Bowls. Part of the lesson you learn is being smart and realizing you can't go out there and do it all on your own. For me, I'm in a great situation, I've a got a young back in Bernard Pierce and we can share the load. But I know when it's a crucial situation, like a fourth down or a big third down, I go out there and make as many plays as a I can."

One of the more practical minds in football. His fantasy owners won't like it though.

Rice has been diagnosed with a strained left hip flexor following his removal from Sunday's win over the Browns. Analysis: While he was not using crutches after the game, the severity of the injury is becoming somewhat clear. However, his status heading into next Sunday's showdown against Houston will be monitored closely as the week carries on.
Bump Pierce.

Baltimore Ravens RB Ray Rice (hip) may sit out the next two weeks to make sure his hip injury has time to heal. RB Bernard Pierce is expected to start while Rice is out of the lineup. Analysis: Pierce is a borderline RB1 while Rice is out. He has a tough match-up this week against the Texans but Pierce should easily rack up 20 touches. Get Pierce in your lineup while Rice is recovering from his hip injury.
Prepare accordingly!

Rice (hip), who practiced all week on a limited basis without a setback, is officially listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Bills, the Ravens' official site reports. Analysis: Heading into the weekend, Rice is viewed as a game-time decision for the game, a notion supported by the comments of coach John Harbaugh. "We stand by the fact that we're hoping he'll get there," Harbaugh said of Rice's availability for Sunday's 1:00 ET contest. "He's got a better chance than he had last week. He has practiced, to an extent, throughout the course of the week, and we'll know on Sunday."
Even if he plays I'd have to think Pierce gets the majority of the work

Ray Rice said he "should have thought twice" about playing through a hip injury last season.
Analysis: Rice blamed the injury for his lack of burst and insists he has "a lot of game left" at 27. Rice only averaged 3.1 YPC behind one of the worst run-blocking lines in the league in 2013. If Baltimore can address its offensive line woes and Rice can get healthy, the diminutive back could turn into a draft-day value. We still think Bernard Pierce has a heck of a chance to eat significantly into Rice's touches. Pierce projects as a great fit in new OC Gary Kubiak's zone-run scheme.

The whole team was down last year. I expect a bounce back.

Rice was SCARY bad last year. I had him in several leagues and he single handedly torpedoed them all with RB3/4 production from a player with RB1 expectations. I haven't sold him yet since I can't get decent value but I am drafting a RB in every league I have Rice. I need some insurance

Well, they weren't entirely the same team, the defense lost some key players, and they traded Boldin away and didn't really replace him which was a headscratcher, injuries derailed Pitta and hampered the OL, Rice (and Pierce) also played through injuries... It can't be underestimated that the defense wasn't the same as they were before. There were a lot of factors that hampered the Ravens last season. As far as Rice goes, the OL problems and a weakened pass offense meant Rice and the running game was usually the opposing defense's focus each week, combine that with the injuries and the Raven's offense, and the run game in particular, was just not able to be as effective as they were the year before...

the passing game in Baltimore has never been a workd beater. the 8 in the box looks were there last year same as this one. It wasn't like Rice was used in the passing game this past year either. the whole situatiin offensively in particular seemed odd.

I don't know that Rice has fallen off, there is more to it than that... This year the main source of the problems for the entire offense was the O-Line, they couldn't run block or pass protect worth a crap... Pierce and Rice both had sub 3.0 ypc avgs and that is more of a sign of a systemic problem with run blocking than one particular RB falling off. Also, for fantasy purposes, the new OC did not feature passes to the RB out of the backfield like they did last year, and that really lowered Rice's statistical output as well.

But the biggest problem was the OLine... at least it looks like the Ravens have identified it and are planning an overhaul... see link http://www.baltimoreravens.com/news/article-1/Expect-Big-Changes-Along-Offensive-Line/07670c1a-8bf2-405a-b37f-a6ba34c90d80

It's the offseason!

Quote :
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. -- Ravens running back Ray Rice and his fiancee were arrested over the weekend after a fight at a casino in Atlantic City, according a statement from the Atlantic City Police Department.
Casino security called officers to the Revel Casino at about 2:50 a.m. Saturday after a domestic dispute between Rice and Janay Palmer that was recorded by video surveillance, according to a statement from police. Footage appeared to show both parties involved in a physical altercation.
“The complaint summons indicates that both Rice and Palmer struck each other with their hands,” the statement said.
Both refused medical attention and did not report any injuries. Rice, 27, and Palmer, 26, were charged with simple assault-domestic violence and were released on a summons to appear in court.
Rice's attorney, Andrew Alperstein, described the allegations as a “very minor physical altercation” with Palmer.
According to Chad Steele, the Ravens' director of public relations: “We are aware of the Friday night situation with Ray Rice and his fiancee. We have spoken with Ray, and know that they returned home together after being detained.”
The Revel Casino security department declined to comment when reached earlier Sunday. Michael Diamondstein, a Philadelphia-based attorney, has been hired to represent Rice.
“We haven't seen any charging documents yet,” Diamondstein said. “There was an argument that included Ray. I can't give any specifics because we haven't seen the document yet.”
“Once we're able to go through the evidence, it should wind up to be little more than a misunderstanding,” Diamondstein said.
Rice was with a group of about eight people earlier in the night at Royal Jelly Burlesque Nightclub located inside the casino, said Scott Russo, the director of operations for the club.
“When he was here, they were having a great time – no issues – [Rice] was very nice to our staff,” Russo said.
He said Rice has been to the club before.
“We took care of him like we do any of the celebrities that come in,” Russo said.

Hmm...this leads me to something else I think....

Not for one second would I make an excuse for him if he dropped her cuz that's fucked up no matter what but....

Chicks that abuse the fact that a guy (or anyone) can't hit them is fucked up too. Just think what you would be willing to do if you could strut through life and nobody was allowed to punch you in the face...right or wrong, my feeling is if you are going to spit in someones face (even if your a chick) you had better be prepared to get knocked the fuck out.

My guess is she is a cunt and Ray isn't quite the upstanding dude I thought he was...but since I have never heard a bad thing about him prior to this, there is a pretty solid chance this bitch had some of this coming to her.

Hopefully they can get away from each other and put this sort of shit behind them.

Yep 2-4 week suspension.Rice has never been in trouble before. If he pleas out, I really expect a 2 game suspension. If it goes to trial and he is found guilty, it could be longer.

Why are the police withholding the video that shows him coldcocking this chick for so long?  Eventually it will be made public, but if it were any other non-celebrity person, it would be available by now.  Once that video comes out, Ray-Ray is going to be in big trouble.

OK, we all know he has had a couple of down years. Now, he has his pending litigation.

What does everyone think his Fantasy value is?

Justin and I have been discussing it over a trade I made in another league we are in.

I gave: Rice I got: Gore/Sidney Rice. I feel Gore, for now, will be more productive. Sidney, pffft, just figure he'll land somewhere.

Kicker, I also own Pierce whom I think will start phasing Rice out, especially now.

to me, not much I don't like older RB's that much, I know he's only 27 but feels older to me, I thought he would have a down year this past season and think he on the downswing of his career as far as picks go I would be happy to get a early 2nd for him, if I was trading for him I would probably give a mid 3rd depending on my team

Pierce is eating into his numbers more and more.

2012: Pierce had 108 rushes/7 rec.
Rice had 257/61

2013 Pierce: 152/20 Rice: 214/58

Add in Kubiak who loves using 2 backs, I see Rice, even if he doesn't get suspended, potentially having less carries than Pierce this season. Considering the fact that Pierce was dealing with a Rotator Cuff last season and has had his surgery, I think he has equal or higher value than Rice.

I hate Rice.  Always have.  But if you're selling him for Gore and Sidney Rice or a mid-3rd...I'm a buyer.  I think you definitely got the worst end of that deal (assuming it is a dynasty league).  Who knows what happens to Gore and how many snaps he starts to lose to Hunter and Lattimore.  And Sidney Rice, whatever.  He's a walking injury and just isn't that good.

Todd has Ray Ray.  No way does Todd sell him off for a mid-3rd.  A matter of fact, I'm going to offer him the 2.11 right now.  Let's see if he accepts it.  Todd, check your inbox.

This seems like the nail in Rice's coffin if you ask me. He was awful last year and all this legal trouble is just another sign that the writing is on the wall. I would rather have one more year of Gore than to have to struggle with Rice for another year.
