PostSubject: Justin Forsett RB RET   Mon Dec 08, 2014 1:42 pm

Is there a better candidate for value of the season in terms of waiver wire pickups this year?  Eric and I picked up him for 6 WB and he hasn't missed a game, averaging just under 17 ppg so far.  I lucked out as LVD (I think) bid 10 WB on him the same week but didn't have the WB in the bank to cover the expenditure.

Solidly in the top 10 RBs in RW.
Averaging 5.6 ypc on the ground.
Has essentially already doubled the rushing yards (currently 1080) and TDs (8) from his previous best season - 2009 - with a few games left to go.

So what next?  Does he have a repeat season or two in his future?  Yeah, he's 29, but he's only touched the ball 435 times before this year.  Will a team give him a real contract to lead their backfield in 2015?  The trade offers I've received for him say "no".

It's too hard to tell right now. I picked him up in my league for 1 year and I'm probably going to let him walk. I just don't see it working out. Forsett will want to get paid and no one will pay him. He will probably get a contract from a shitty team and never again do anything worth mentioning.

On the other hand, for his sake, I would hope he accepts the near minimum contract that the Ravens offer him. Then he should return as a "stud" for another year or two.

2cents

Knowshon last year was absolute gold and I got him on the WW in a few leagues. Joique Bell was another one when he first broke out and Victor Cruz.

But yeah Forsett has been the bomb.

I agree Forsett was a waiver wire gem for a lot of owners this year.

I'm not sure how the Ravens are going to handle him this offseason, but if I was them I would give him a contract even though he is 29 years old. The dude has fresh legs, but fresh legs or not at 30 years old, your football body does slow down some. That is unless you are D Will or Fred Jackson

A source tells ESPN that the Falcons will have "strong interest" in free agent RB Justin Forsett.
Related: Falcons

Think the focus is they could obtain him inexpensively? I read that Freeman isnt their sole answer from different sources. The Falcons probably dont need to spend much money here since they do have DFreeman.

All RB's paydays have taken a hit in recent years, but Forsett will be 30 this season which is pretty much the wall for most RB's... can't see him getting a huge deal despite the nice job he did stepping up last year.

Other FA RBs are available and this years draft class should be really good, who wants to overspend for a 30 yr old back when there are plenty of younger and better options available?

Interesting?!?
He does have a connection to Quinn from Seattle before he was cut.

Is it just me, or are the Falcons coming up in the news regarding ALL the free agents?

I think Forsett should stay right where he is. I don't see him being the starter in many places. Yeah, i know he did well this year. I just don't see it long term and if he has a good thing going in Baltimore, he should stay put.

Forsett is turning 30 next season, any time thinking of making any kind of long term investment for him as a potential starter should have their head examined... especially when there are so many younger and better options around...

I usually agree with this. However, because Forsett has little wear and tear, I think he could put another 2 quality seasons in if he is in the right system.

This was really the only scenario that made sense for Forsett... Nobody else was going to give him money for a multi year deal when there were other talented FA RBs and such a strong draft class...

I don't know if he can repeat a performance like last year, but he could be a servicable starter for a year or two and put up solid mid to low end RB2 numbers...

ESPN Ravens reporter Jamison Hensley suggests Justin Forsett's reception total "could possibly double" this season.

Forsett caught "only" 44 balls in outgoing coordinator Gary Kubiak's offense. A proficient pass-game weapon throughout his career and former third-down back by trade, Forsett's catch total should improve significantly in new OC Marc Trestman's scheme, which funnels targets to his tailbacks. As noted by Hensley, seven times in Trestman's history his running back has caught 69 or more passes, including Derek Loville, Charlie Garner, Matt Forte (twice), Michael Pittman, and Larry Centers. "That will be a part of what we're doing," Ravens head coach John Harbaugh confirmed. "It'll be a big part of it."

Cut. I was afraid that was going to happen. The writing was practically on the wall though. Now all I can do is hope he can catch on with a team that can give him carries.

Yea, not a big surprise given the depth at the RB position, his age and the $$ Balt can save.

Checking the RW roster on Forsett, he's on the Eternals. That now makes 3 RB's on the Eternals roster that are NFL Free-Agents: Forsett, Juwan Thompson, & Karlos Williams. Not good for the Eternals RB depth.

Kinda shocked they released him... I guess they can trust West, Allen and Dixon to carry the load.

I'm glad somebody does, because I don't like the sound of that committee to be honest no

I wasn't surprised that he was cut. But I was surprised that he was re-signed before week 1s games were played. This happens a lot to avoid guaranteeing the salary. I'm wondering if the Ravens planned on doing that but they thought that another team would sign Forsett and decided to bring him back. If they wanted to reduce his salary, they should have been able to do that without cutting him.

No they paid him 100k extra. It was to make room on the roster so they could IR two guys. Need to be on the roster at least 1 day to go on IR. So now they resign Forsett and sign Hester. Still weird.

Is there a messier fantasy landscape than Baltimore right now? Other than QB, every other position is a committee. 4 RB's, 4 WR's, 3 TE's. What a mess

I don't think so- SF has pretty clear top options at TE and RB, and probably WR too

All planned and happy to see it (didn't drop Forsett when he was made a FA) but now Baltimore needs to stick with him and not fall for the nonsense that West or Dixon is the answer cuz they're not. Nobody is the answer so stay with the non-answer Forsett over the new non-answers. laughing

I have 3 out of the 4 RB options. So it is clearly Terrace West that will run away with the job.

If I were Forsett's agent, I would have called up the Redskins immediately when the Ravens started dicking around with my client's contract to see if the SKins were interested in his services. Washington is shallow at that position and likely would have paid well to have Justin there. Would have served Baltimore right for the way they treated him...

Forsett is a journeyman and doesn't not have the frame to get 200+ carries
Last year and this are not a surprise - 2014 was the anomaly...

I'm confused by this comment - Harbaugh hasn't coached in SF for years

Forsett can't hurt but I don't see him as the answer in Detroit.  It's a shame that Zenner and Washington couldn't take advantage of the opportunity.  This is certainly good news for Abdullah because his replacement isn't on the roster yet.
