Who didn't see this one coming....

Quote :
CBS' Jason La Canfora reports the Chargers are working to "finalize" a deal to move into Rams owner Stan Kroenke's stadium in Inglewood, Cal.

Per La Canfora, the league is "watching closely and willing/eager to mediate if need be." The Bolts are losing time on their move, as the Rams are already taking deposits on season tickets. Kroenke has made out like a robber baron in Los Angeles after it appeared for years that Chargers owner Dean Spanos had first say on the market.

So if this happens we'd have an LA Rams and an LA Chargers? Is that right?

The Chargers have applied to trademark "Los Angeles Chargers."

It looks like this is really happening. Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reported Monday the Bolts were working to "finalize" a deal to share the Rams' new stadium in Inglewood. The Chargers' trademark application, which was filed two days after the league approved the Rams' relocation bid, should be the final nail in the coffin. The Chargers' inevitable move effectively squashes any hope the Raiders had of returning to Los Angeles. Relocating to San Antonio might be the Raiders' best option at this point.

So there it is.

This I concur with. For the Raiders it now seems go to San Diego or San Antonio. I can't see the people of SD openly embracing a hated rival of 40 odd years. Also, the fans of SD are a lil weak assed IMO. San Antonio has the money, the temporary stadium in the Alamo Dome, and the ability to build a new stadium in the future. They have the Spurs who run the silver and black motif, and they would cut into Jerrys World, which would likely make old Al smile.

Guess SD and its fans will have to wait until likely either Jacksonville or Cleveland moves to SD. Surely one of them will, and if it is Cleveland, they will promptly get another expansion team down the road and the ground hog day like cycle can continue. laughing

The Chargers announced on Friday that they are staying put in San Diego and not moving to Los Angeles as was originally assumed. Their fans are pumped, as would be expected. You know who else is? Quarterback Philip Rivers.

Rivers, who went public with concerns about both the franchise and his own family relocating to L.A. prior to this past season, feels, in his own words, “fired up” about the Bolts remaining in their home city since 1961:

“Obviously I’m fired up, as I know the guys will be in that building,” he said shortly after the announcement. “Hopefully the fans are as fired up as we are. We get at least one more go out at Qualcomm and in San Diego. It is exciting news, so I am fired up.”

Rivers wasn’t the only Charger thrilled about the news. A couple of his teammates took to Twitter to express their excitement about staying in San Diego as well as to implore the team’s fans to express their gratitude for the decision by showing up to Qualcomm Stadium in full force next year.

The Chargers are in agreement with the Rams to join them in L.A. should the team and the city of San Diego not be able to work out a long-term plan for a new stadium. The agreement gives the Chargers a one-year window to decide to join the Rams in their new stadium, set to be built in Inglewood, which expires on Jan. 15, 2017.

San Diego has a year to get a real plan together or the Chargers leave and they dont look like the really bad guys is what is happening

Either way the Chargers got 2nd in the NFL free money/publicity game and the Raiders got screwed and finished last. unfortunately my Rams finished 1st and wrote their own ticket

Change the topic title to LA Chargers. Ouch, even the logo sucks. Stadium will hold 30,000 people!

That ain't really their logo, is it?  30,000?  Most colleges hold more than that. This is a monster disaster!

Yes, that is their new logo. Horrid. And yes, the Stubhub Center says it holds 27,000. It is an MFL Soccer stadium. They will play there for 2017-2018.

To put things into perspective, Lambeau Field holds 81,000.

30,000 seats...surprised the NFL isn't gonna try to recoup that by charging $1500 per ticket. You know, because their current pricepoint is so affordable.

Doesn't affect me so I'm not bitching but when teams aren't on top, selling out these stadiums at the prices they charge is only going to get more challenging. Well not if they roll with smaller stadiums and charge even more to those willing to pay through the nose to be there. I know this is a temporary home for them but it makes me wonder where things might go one day.

Hard to imagine all the growth, all of the stadium numbers (capacity and financials) and everything else isn't one day going to fall right off a cliff.

Oh well. Maybe not. The NFL is gonna rock it til the wheels fall off is my guess.

That logo is bad. I feel for San Diego and I honestly don't get two teams in LA now. LA has so many things to do and NFL teams have failed there in the past. I get that they are a huge city, but it just does not make sense.

I feel bad for local people who love and support the team. Honestly that kind of thing just doesn't happen in European sport. I can think of one football (soccer) team who relocated, but they went bankrupt and were reformed 40 miles away so it was circumstantial.

When we went to SD for a Packer game a few years back there were more Packer fans than Charger fans. I just saw the game when they played the Chiefs and it was embarrassing, there were like 75% Chief fans there. Not enough fans in SD, in addition to them not supporting the stadium. Qualcomm was absolutely terrible.

But yeah, the LA move makes no sense. One or both of these teams will be gone in 10 years.

Ok, that is pretty damn funny.  Didn't even think about the Lightning's logo.  It's gotta be bad when the professional sports world is mocking your new logo.  To me, I was laughing at the fact that both the Dodgers & Lightning have a sense of humor to roll with this.

That's the truth. It was weak but honestly, people are upset by this change so short of it being the greatest logo ever it's gonna get trashed which is sorta lame. Like many things, I'm sure whoever gets to make the final decision has very little taste for good designs so yeah...they're fucked.

Sad, sad move by the Chargers.  If that's the logo you chose you gotta suck it up, be strong, and roll with it.  And then fire the ad agency that helped you create the logo.  Given the indication that they may change the team name it would have been smarter to keep the logo and just expedite the process of changing the name and go with a better logo at that time.

Spanos the owner of the Chargers is an absolute skinflint.

Chargers will last all of 20 years in L.A. then move onto where?
Yep good old St Louis. Book it Danno!

The St Louis Chargers in 2037.
