Damn it has been a bad season but I see a good one ahead for the Chargers. Rivers had a boneheaded year but I see a HUGE comeback year and will make guys like Macolm Floyd and Vincent Brown look like WR1's. Vincent Jackson should be released as he always causes media attention and I don't like him as a pure receiver that much. Floyd is a great deep threat as has the physical attributes to be a successful receiver in the NFL. If VJAx leaves, the Chargers has the money to get a decent receiver like Pierre Garcon, or maybe even Stevie Johnson. Colston and Bowe is too much. The defensive backs need the most work. Jammer is getting older and worse while Cason shouldn't be a CB2. We definetly need to draft a DB.

Chargers let V-Jax walk and bring in Robert Meachem.

Nice move by SD IMO. I'd rather take my chances with Meachem than ole V-Jax. They also saved money too boot. Tip of the Fedora to the SD brass.

I need to catch up with the overnight (my time) moves but I like this one. Interesting to see how Meachem does on a team where he's a bit more valued.

Eddie Royal signed on a 3yr deal. Not sure what he brings to the party apart from depth (Floyd is very injury prone I suppose) and special teams?

Chargers agreed to terms with WR/KR Eddie Royal on a three-year contract.
Royal drew initial interest from the Ravens and 49ers, but the final decision came down to the Bolts versus Redskins. Once players visit San Diego, they rarely get away. Able to play the slot and return punts, Royal is a nice complement to outside receivers and vertical threats Robert Meachem, Malcom Floyd, and Vincent Brown. He won't be draftable in fantasy leagues. It will be interesting to find out why Royal got away from the Redskins are multiple reports that he had signed early in free agency.

I think Royal is more a Special Teams signing than a key cog to the WR's. They sorely missed Sproles last year and are trying to fix that error in letting him walk by bringing in Eddie Royal with Cheese to add some spark to the kick return game. That's how I see it anyways.

Sorry SD, but Rivers is a sook, always has been. always will be. I will never forget his menacing staring eyes across the field at Cutler when he was at Denver.....scary stuff NOT!!

I have never had him on any roster in FF, and he has never haunted me in FF either.

Chargers are always that team everyone expects to deliver, and guess what, they never do.

Meachem an upgrade over VJAX? Is that you mean? If so I disagree, and I actually think VJax is a little over-rated.

Meachem never really developed into a full route tree runner from what I saw. He'll fill in for the Chargers where losing VJax hurts the most (namely, deep), but I don't think he's going to be like a #1 WR there or anything.

Have to agree here. To me, Meachem fits the same mold as Garcon. WR2 at best. Put them in a WR1 role, they are going to really struggle.

That said, never a big VJax fan either.

I agree he has been a douche even longer. Meachem will suprise alot of people this year. As for being the #1 receiver he was never given that chance in NO due to Colston.

Chargers Sign Rosario For One Year.

Quote :
The San Diego Chargers and free agent tight end Dante Rosario agreed to a one-year contract Monday. The
6-foot-4, 250-pound Rosario played four seasons for the Panthers after
being picked in the fifth round by Carolina in 2007. He played for
Denver last season.
Rosario has 89 catches for 1,011 yards and five touchdowns during his career.
In the 2008 opener, Rosario caught a 14-yard touchdown pass from Jake Delhomme as time expired to give the Panthers a 26-24 victory against the Chargers.

I think the resigning of Garay is GREAT. He is the only physical presence up the middle for the Chargers. Castillo resigning is nice if he could stay healthy for most of the season. We now have 3 kick returners; Parrish, Spurlock, and Royal. That is great depth for losing VJax.

Draft recap from Bleacher Report:

Quote :
Draft Picks:

Round 1: OLB Melvin Ingram (South Carolina)

Round 2: DE Kendall Reyes (UConn)

Round 3: SS Brandon Taylor (LSU)

Round 4: TE Ladarius Green (La.-Lafayette)

Round 5: OG Johnnie Troutman (Penn State)

Round 6: None

Round 7: C David Molk (Michigan), RB Edwin Baker (Michigan State)

Grade: A-

Summary:

It's hard to argue with reloading their defense with their first three picks—Ingram, Reyes and Taylor are all big hitters who will help close the gap in the AFC West. Ingram and Reyes will be penciled in as starters, with Jarrett Johnson possibly playing more inside. Taylor, if paired with Eric Weddle, has room to grow into an elite player.

Ladarius Green has great athletic ability and tons of potential to become a No. 1 tight end once Antonio Gates moves on. David Molk is a very strong center prospect who is just a bit undersized but could impress.

Really solid picks here. I'll be interested to see what Green becomes.

The NFL is investigating the San Diego Chargers for the alleged use of "Stickum," a sticky substance that gives teams a competitive advantage when it comes to catching footballs.
It's believed some Chargers players used the adhesive in "one or more games" this season. "We are looking into it," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello confirmed. In last week's meltdown loss to the Broncos, an official confiscated a sticky substance from a member of the Chargers' equipment staff. The substance is currently being tested by the league offense. "We are aware of the inquiry," the Chargers said in a statement, "and we are cooperating fully with the league."

As one commenter said:

"Philip Rivers must be using it!"

Yea, Rivers must be using the stickem which is why he is taking so many sacks. He just can't seem to get rid of the football.

The Chargers are a joke. Have been for several years now. Every year, you think this is going to be the year they put it together, and every year, sucksville.

Kevin Acee of U-T San Diego reported Thursday that general manager A.J. Smith and coach Norv Turner will be fired at the end of the season. Yeah, way overdue. How they parted with Schottenheimer after going 14-2 is beyond me. I like to see crusty shit situations get the pressure washer.

I wonder what the new regime will do with Rivers.

The crazy thing is, and I've heard a couple people in the media say this, scouts/personnel people around the league say that the Chargers pretty much have nothing as far as talent goes. They have Rivers who is still probably better than what a lot of teams have, but other than that...who are their standout talents? Not really Gates anymore. You could try and argue Matthews I guess, but I think he's pretty meh. What do they have?

Nice job AJ Smith.

I have pretty much hated Rivers since day 1...he slid down the chart of hated players due to the other players being bigger fuckheads...but I am not sure what to think. He used to have Tomlinson and Gates and life was good. Now its bad. I just don't know if he could have been this bad all along and those guys were so good they hid it completely. I think they would be making a mistake to not give him another shot without the known tards calling the shots around him now.

This is an interesting article. Chargers looking to run an up tempo no huddle offense this year. Could be some interesting fantasy ramifications for a variety of players.

A move to LA makes sense for the Bolts... The Chargers have been trying to get a new stadium for the last decade but the City doesn't seem to want to work with them... Plus, SD fans are some of the worst, fair weather fans in all sports... Most of their home games this year looked like home games for the visiting team! A move back to LA would be a good thing for the franchise I think...

The stadium was 60% Packer fans, it was the most I have seen at any of our road trips. Embarrassing for Charger fans.
