PostSubject: Charles Sims - RB - Buccaneers   Fri Aug 15, 2014 3:47 pm

Quote :
Bucs rookie RB Charles Sims will miss 12-14 weeks after undergoing surgery on his right ankle.
The surgery will take place Saturday to repair Sims' fractured ankle. He may be a candidate for injured reserve/designated for return, or even the permanent I.R. list. The Bucs used a top-70 draft pick on Sims in hopes of utilizing him as a passing-game specialist behind Doug Martin. Bobby Rainey now becomes the favorite for change-of-pace duties, while Mike James should be a lock for the final 53. Martin's fantasy value certainly isn't hurt by Sims' absence. He could see a few more targets in the passing game.

So much for him taking touches from Dmart this year...

Bucs placed RB Charles Sims (knee) on injured reserve.

This one comes out of left field, as there was no indication Sims' injury was serious. It's unclear if his season is over, or if he will be a candidate to return in eight weeks. Sims struggled mightily as a fill-in starter for Doug Martin, but is amongst the league's best pass-catching backs. His absence creates an every-week role for Jacquizz Rodgers, putting him on the radar in PPR leagues. Doug Martin could also be a little more involved in the passing game, boosting his floor. Sims turned 26 last month. 2017 is the final year of his rookie contract.

Fuck. My. Life.

This guy never gets to take advantage of the missed games Martin has.

Sims is a total disappointment. If you look at the last two games he was at fault for a lot of the points scored against us. He bumped into Winston causing a fumble. Fumbled a few times, tipped balls to opposing players and blew many blocks. Good riddance. Hope he playes elsewhere next season.

Scott Smith of Buccaneers.com considers Charles Sims a "long shot" to make the Bucs' 53-man roster.

Doug Martin, Jacquizz Rodgers, Jeremy McNichols and Peyton Barber are locks, leaving Sims, Russell Hansbrough and Quayvon Hicks on the outside looking in. Sims has shown flashes in his three seasons, especially as a receiver, but has rarely been healthy and is two months shy of his 27th birthday. By contrast, fifth-round rookie Jeremy McNichols, who is also a standout in the passing game, turns 22 in December. Rodgers will likely assume workhorse duties until Martin returns from his four-game suspension.

I saw that today and was quite surprised that, if true, they've given up on him so quickly. Guess I didn't realize he was 27.

I would hope they would cut him in the first round of cuts so he can catch on with another team. I am certain he could be a RB3 elsewhere.

Injuries playing a key role here...when you look at the NFL injury report each week you realize what a tenacious situation players are in from the standpoint of job security, especially for lower tier players...they're just a disposable commodity.

The RB in question is actually Blake Sims, not Charles Sims.  Charles Sims will be on the roster week 1.

I saw this the other day and thought I had said it was not Charles... I own Charles in one league where its small roster sizes and had to do a double check to make sure it wasnt him... Good catch Russ.
