I found it interesting he went to a 3-4 where his speed won't be utilized to its fullest potential.

Quote :
Steelers first-round ILB Ryan Shazier had 11 solo tackles and an interception while playing less than two quarters in Saturday's preseason game against the Bills.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette called it one of the more impressive debuts in recent memory. Shazier was wreaking havoc all over the field, flashing freakish athleticism with a lunging interception of E.J. Manuel and returning it 27 yards. He's locked and loaded as the starting "mack" next to "buck" Lawrence Timmons and has a ton of upside as a LB3.

I have watched the condensed version of this game a couple of times now and Shazier did not look like a rookie, as a matter of fact he looked like the best player on the Steeler's defense. He is stout against the run and has the speed to cover and is set to be a 3-down inside LB, he will be fun to watch this season!

They're saying he has a spinal contusion. Anytime the spine is mentioned, that's scary, but at least they're not mentioning any lost feeling in the legs or paralysis.

Tough break for Shazier. He went down like a limp noodle. Wonder how long he will be out for?

Big blow to the Steelers D as the playoffs approach. Not really sure what that surgery entails or what the recovery process is, but it sure don't sound good. Hope he makes it back to camp next summer though.

The best part was the fact that he's able to stand, even if he is leaning on Big Ben.  At this point just getting use of his extremities and hopefully walking is a victory.

I just don't know how a player comes back to play on the field after an injury like that, especially as hard hitting a player he was.

I'm happy he's recovering well! I highly doubt that he plays again though. I can't imagine he could come back from that.

I agree I don't see it either and hopefully the organization takes care of him, his family and all the medical expenses both present and future.

What will be odd is when next year, he is not on IR (b/c injury didn't happen this NFL year) and whoever owns him in RW will have a contract year(s) taken up unless they want to spend the WB to drop him.

Hot damn, that’s probably going to happen. Will be like he is a suspended player. Ouch.

If only we had put something like that to a vote... oh wait.

Sucks for his owners. I’ve dealt with it on several players, suspended, injured for long term but not on IR.

I'm thinking that more than likely the doctors will end up telling him he will not be able to play again and he will retire. And if not the doctors his wife and family should encourage it.

I here he is making tremendous progress... I would never count out anyone anymore with the health care and rehabilitation stuff they have these days.
