PostSubject: Re: England Dragons Press Room   Mon May 21, 2012 2:54 pm

Overall strategy
1. What was your initial approach going into the Auction Draft?
I've experienced a few of these now. On my first one, I was petrified of spending too much on one guy and ended up with no studs. I expected to spend around $700 on my first 10 guys and then spend carefully so I could pick up several in the $10 to $25 range.

2. Did you end up sticking to your initial draft strategy?
Not in terms of spend per position. Lots of great players passed me by and I pretty much stuck to my maximums early on. The one thing I didn't expect was to land 2 top RB's - that wasn't planned, but they both went cheaper than I expected after seeing the prices McCoy, Foster, Richardson etc went for. I had to re-set my budgets once I'd won both of those as the 2 exceded my total planned RB spend.

3. How did you divide your spending on Offense and Defense? Any additional strategies here?
The plan was to have as good a defence as I could. The great thing here is the even scoring across positions so I worked on a 60/40 split which wasn't too far away from where I ended up.

4. Any observations about the other owner’s approaches in the Auction Draft? (Good, Bad, Ugly, Surprising)
The early spending was very much in line with what I have seen before despite most being surprised by it. The reason it shouldn't have been is the even scoring here. In offense loaded scoring, the spending was about right but not in this scoring format in my opinion.

5. What was your biggest “oh shit” moment of the draft?
Not a massive one but I didn't like getting carried away and speding $15 on a second CB quite late on. It's the most inconsistent position and you can get a ton of good CB's on the waiver generally or for $1 at the end of the auction. I got my #1 target with Tillman and should have left it there.

Reflecting on your spending
6. How did the Auction go compared to your expectations and your previous experiences?
Kind of answered above. Some key offensive guys went for too much, despite them being great players. This was only the case due to the excellent scoring system here. In many league, the offense scores twice as much as the IDP guys and $180 on a top RB is fine in that scenario.

7. How happy are you with how you drafted? Where do you think you overspent?
Happy enough. $46 on Justin Tuck is too much unless he comes back fit.

8. Was there a player you missed out on and thought you would own before the draft?
Nope - I went in with no 'I must have this guy' thoughts. It's too dangerous and would have caused me to overspend. Stafford was the player I was most disappointed not to get.

9. Who was the one guy on your team that you couldn’t live without and had to have on your team?
None. I tend to start falling in love with my players after they are on my team!

10. Who was, in your opinion, the greatest steal on your team?
Mathews @ $92 when compared to other top RB's. He's not quite there yet but will hopefully join the elite this season. Maybe Reggie Wayne @ $14 - top drawer #1 WR with a much better QB this year. He's 33 but will be great for another 2-3 years.

Assessing your squad
11. What draft grade would you give yourself (A, B, C, or D)?
B. It could have been an A if Spazz had left my players alone...!

12. What are your overall thoughts on your team?
Pretty happy. Reliant on some young QB's coming through. Love my defence - I really couldn't be happier there.

13. Who are the 3 key players to your franchise?
RGIII, Mathews, Marshall.

14. What do you perceive to be your team’s greatest weakness?
RB depth - very patchy past my top 2 guys but you only have to start 1 so not too worried.

15. What is the best (most Depth) position on your team?
LB, for sure. Very young too.

16. What are 3 things to watch for, out of your team in 2012?
How the rookies perform. I'm not overloaded with them but they will be key to me doing well or not. Injuries - players like Gates, Colston, Floyd all have some history in that area. Picking the right line-up each week. Plenty of options (as has everyone) and plenty of scope to completely get it wrong.

17. What record would you predict for your team for 2012?
A positive one.
18. What record would you predict for your team in the year 2015?
A positive one. I have plenty of young guys in there so hope they develop as predicted.

Dealing with the competition
19. Which other team was the biggest pain in your ass?
Spazz. I hate James. The amount of e-mails I got telling me Spazz had out-bid me... wink

20. Who was your MVP (Best Pick) of the draft?
One of the LB's probably. Tough to pick one though...

21. Who do you feel has the strongest team right now?
I'm in the minority - he wasn't close to winning his Chapter vote - but I really like The Destroyers roster.
