Now, lets get on with working towards the 2012 season.

Seriously. I almost sick after the game when they said the Manningham catch could have been the best in Superbowl history.

Seriously? Give me a break. It was a lame Super Bowl and everyone knows it

Last 5 minutes were exciting. I wasn't really rooting for either team, so I went in with a bias grin

But other than long drives to end each half it was a pretty slow game IMO. We've also been spoiled with pretty good Super Bowls the past few years, so I guess in 'the year of the quarterback' I assumed we'd have some epic shootout.

But anyway, it really just drives me crazy; I feel like every year they have to find something about the Super Bowl that was "The best ________ ever."

Well I was sober the whole game and after it was over I just thought what a boring game. True the last couple of minutes where good. But on the whole I just thought it was boring. Maybe it was becasue they had already played each other this season.

Yeah I still don't think it was a great game or anything. But I was rooting against both teams, which generally makes a game less enjoyable. But yeah overall it was a slow game. I can't believe how many people I've heard refer to it as one of the best of all time. Still drives me nuts

Giants are my favorite team by far. I think the receiving corps will not be downgraded too much as i think dropping Manningham is a 100% since they need to cut the cap. Cruz and Nicks are great and will continue to be dominant. Bradshaw is a solid runner with a sick underrated stiff arm IMO. Jacobs is interesting but we need the cap space and 4.4m is way too much. Either cut that by a lot or cut him as he sometimes talks too much and is a distraction. The O line is relatively solid but I suggest to cut David Baas at center for cap space and Kevin Boothe looked better at center than Baas. Hope we win again next year!!!

I hope we win again as well. Giants homer here. Looks like Manningham is going to Tampa Bay and I'm hearing rumblings about trading Osi. We'll see how it all pans out in the end.

Frankly I won't miss Manningham and it's smart for the Giants to let him walk. He doesn't have the skill set to be a #1 WR IMO. Would really love to see Ramses Barden come into his own. Guy is always hurt...

Good news for my Big Blue. Manning restructured.

Quote :
Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News reports that Manning lowered his base salary for 2012 from $10.75 million to $1.75 million to create almost $7 million in cap space. His cap number for the 2012 season will now be $9.6 million, down from $16.35 million.

And it looks like another move...

Quote :
Giants Tell Kareem McKenzie to Look for Another Team?: According to The Bergen Record,
the Giants have told soon-to-be unrestricted free agent RT Kareem
McKenzie to shop for another team. David Diehl and James Brewer are the
likely front runners to compete for the starting right tackle job.

The Giants are releasing Brandon Jacobs

Quote :

Mike Garafolo
@MikeGarafolo

Giants will release Brandon Jacobs today after seven seasons with the team: Sides couldn't reach a financial agreement bit.ly/z9jfPE

9 Mar 12

According to Garafolo, the Giants and Jacobs could not come to an
agreement on a reduction of his 2012 salary. Jacobs, 29, was due to
early $4.9 million in base salary next season.

Love this as a Giants fan. NOBODY else is going to pay him that kind of money. OLD CEMENT SHOES!

I just picked up Ware and Scott in any league they were available. Scott has a TON of upside and Ware is no worse than Jacobs. Lots of speculation of NYG picking up a RB in FA but I see no point.

Not only will Big Blue be kicking the shit out of the Cowboys in the first game of the season but it looks like Coughlin is going to get a nice long term deal.

Quote :
After winning two Super Bowls in the last five seasons, Tom Coughlin
is finally about to get some job security. Giants co-owner John Mara
said Tuesday that he expects to sign Coughlin to a multiyear contract
extension in the next four to six weeks.
"We've had a lot of good discussions since the Super Bowl, and I have no doubt it's going to get done very soon," Mara told the New York Post on Tuesday
from the NFL Annual Meeting in Palm Beach, Fla. "As I've said, Tom is
our guy, and we think we have the best coach in the league."

More Bradshaw foot issues.

Quote :
New York Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw will not take part in mini-camp or organized team activities this offseason after having bone marrow from his hip injected into his ailing foot, the New York Post reported Monday.

I'm telling you the Giants draft a RB early. They DO NOT want to roll into a season with the chance Bradshaw goes down and have to rely on Ware/Scott. No sir, no way.

Have I ever said that I *love* Cruz?

Quote :
Cruz was third in the NFL in receiving last season, but is due to
make just $540,000 in 2012, the final year of his contract before he
becomes a restricted free agent.
By comparison, the league's leading receiver in 2011, Calvin Johnson, recently signed an eight-year, $150.5 million deal with the Lions. Patriots wideout Chad Ochocinco earned $6 million last season despite finishing with 1,260 fewer receiving yards than Cruz.
A training camp holdout is a common leverage ploy in these situations, but don't expect to see it in Cruz's case.
"That's not even in my vocabulary," Cruz told the New York Post on Tuesday at the Nike uniform roll out event in New York. "I don't even know what that means."
This
is obviously good news for the Giants, who could've had a major
headache to deal with had their top playmaker decided to go into hiding.
As for Cruz, the 2012 season is shaping up as a huge risk/huge reward
proposition.

Quote :
Andre Brown Suspended by NFL: HB Andre Brown, who
spent the 2011 season on the Giants’ Practice Squad, has been suspended
for four games by the NFL. Brown allegedly violated the League’s policy
on performance enhancing substances.

Brown is eligible to participate in all offseason and preseason
practices and preseason games. If Brown makes the Giants’ 53- man roster
in September, he will have to sit out four games without pay. But it is
not a given that Brown will make the team.

Well, this went from message-board rumor to almost a done deal in a hurry.

The Giants are finalizing
details on a trade with the Bengals for linebacker Keith Rivers,
according to someone informed of the progress of talks. The person
requested anonymity because final details are still being worked out.

"It's going to happen," the person wrote in an email.

The Daily News is reporting the Giants will send the Bengals a fifth-round pick
in this month's NFL Draft. That pick is No. 32 in the round. The Giants
have two fourth-round picks this year, thanks to a compensatory pick
the league awarded them last month.

Here we go again...

Quote :
The reigning Super Bowl champion New York Giants returned to work for the first day of the team's offseason workouts on Monday without veteran Osi Umenyiora.

The two-time Pro Bowl defensive end reportedly does not have any immediate plans to attend the team’s offseason workouts, the first of which are voluntary, a source told The New York Daily News. Umenyiora is in the final year of a deal he signed in 2005 and has been seeking a long-term extension.

Umenyiora, who has missed the beginning of offseason workouts in the past, prefers to workout in his home of Atlanta. Umenyiora said he is not looking for a trade, and that his agent has not discussed a trade with the team this offseason.

He added that he has not had any offseason medical procedures since the Giants won the Super Bowl "so far" and is the healthiest he has been in a long time.

Umenyiora returned from preseason arthroscopic knee surgery last fall and accepted a back-up role behind Justin Tuck and Jason Pierre-Paul, recording nine sacks in as many games and forcing two fumbles.

"It would be a wonderful thing to do to start your career with one team and finish it with one team. I would love to do it," Umenyiora told the Star-Legder. "Is it realistic? Is it reality? Who knows. I don't like being a backup, I can tell you that."

So the Giants signed David Wilson. They obviously wanted Martin but got jumped before they could pick him up. I really like Wilson but he's the same kind of back that Bradshaw is and think they would have been better served waiting until round 2 or 3 and drafting a back then and taking the BPA at the end of the first.

Just my thoughts on the issue.

I too thought it was an odd pick. The Giants are usually the epitome of the BPA drafter, I am skeptical that Wilson was their BPA. I think they lost their guy at #31 and quasi-panicked because they basically have one NFL RB on their roster, and he only has one foot.

I think that is EXACTLY what happened. Bradshaw's feet are held together with bailing string at this point and if he goes down they did NOT want to be relying on Scott and Ware. I understand the pick I just don't like it.

RBBC is back in full swing for the Giants. I like the Wilson pick for them, as bad as I hate to say it the Giants don't have many holes to fill on that team, and adding a solid RB helps shore up that question mark very quickly.

Giants signed SLB Mathias Kiwanuka to a three-year extension through 2015.

Without the new deal, Kiwanuka would have been entering a contract season in 2012. The 29-year-old pass rusher has settled in as largely a strong-side linebacker in the Giants' 3-4. Per Rotoworld offseason acquisition Mike Clay, Kiwi played 69 percent of his 2011 snaps at linebacker, 21 percent at end, and 8 percent as an interior defensive tackle. Kiwanuka finished with a career high 84 tackles, 3.5 of them good for sacks. He's now under contract through his age-32 season.

Does this spell the end of Osi in NY?

Giants have had a fantastic draft so far. Wilson, Randle and Hosley they filled some big needs. Wilson is a huge upgraded over Jacobs and is a dynamic play maker. Randle is a huge upgrade over Manningham (not saying much but...) and should be about to beat out the other guys there (Barden, Hixon, Jernigan) for the #3 role.

Our secondary was decimated by injuries last year and Prince didn't really impress so I'm really happy to see Hosley added to the crew. I'm loving this draft! cheers

Draft recap from Bleacher Report:

Quote :
Draft Picks:

Round 1: RB David Wilson (Virginia Tech)

Round 2: WR Rueben Randle (LSU)

Round 3: CB Jayron Hosley (Virginia Tech)

Round 4: TE Adrien Robinson (Cincinnati), OT Brandon Mosley (Auburn)

Round 5: None

Round 6: OT Matt McCants (UAB)

Round 7: DT Markus Kuhn (North Carolina State)

Grade: B

Summary:

Going with David Wilson to end the first round didn't address a major need, but he's a nice complementary back to work with Ahmad Bradshaw. His speed will be an asset on the outside.

Same with Rueben Randle, who is a big target on the edge. If Randle works out, he could keep Victor Cruz in the slot where he's most effective.

Jayron Hosley was a little overrated by the media, but his speed and hard-nosed mentality on the outside will be a welcome addition in replacing Aaron Ross.

Brandon Mosley is a guy who could eventually be a starter at right tackle. Keep an eye on him.

WOO GIANTS! WORLD CHAMPION NY GIANTS!!!!

Anyway

I loved this draft. I think it is well known that I liked Martin over Wilson but the more I see of Wilson the better I feel about this draft. We got incredible value with Randle and we addressed other team needs like the Line, TE and Secondary. Overall great draft imho.
