The New York Jets fired offensive coordinator Tony Sparano after just one season with the team. The firing was first reported ESPN's Chris Mortensen and later confirmed by multiple outlets.

Rex Ryan announced that Sparano would not be back for the 2013 season during his news conference Tuesday.

The firing comes one day after the New York Daily News reported that quarterbacks coach Matt Cavanaugh won't be retained after his contract expired.

I'm not sure a Pop Warner team would hire Sparano as a OC'. This guy makes Mike Tice the former OC' of the Bears this year look like Bill Walsh.

Sparano play book.

Run Left
Run Right
Run Middle
Run into Pile
Run into Linemans ass and fumble

Pass for incompletetion
Pass to opponent for Int
Stop Passing and return to running

Start process all over again ... doh

Even Mark Sanchez doesn't know N.Y. Jets receivers

The New York Jets have question marks at the wide receiver position even when the entire group is healthy. And they are anything but healthy.

The team's top four wide receivers are currently hurt: Santonio Holmes (foot), Stephen Hill (knee), Jeremy Kerley (heel) and Clyde Gates (hamstring). That has left Mark Sanchez and Geno Smith trying to impress with a group of players who have little experience in the NFL, much less with the Jets.

Ben Obomanu is the veteran of the healthy group. Jordan White, Joseph Collins, Zach Rogers and Thomas Mayo have two combined games of experience between them. The New York Post noted that at one point on Wednesday the first team offense had three receivers who had never taken a snap.

Don't feel bad for not knowing these guys. Even Sanchez doesn't know them.

"We've come up with some funny nicknames for some of them because you don't even know their names and they're just in there," Sanchez told the Post.

I found this hilarious.

I think it is safe to say that Sanchez is merely just a camp body and he will be the teams 2013 version of Tim Tebow.

RotoWire) Edwards will sign a one-year contract with the Jets on Thursday, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com reports. Analysis: It sounds like Edwards checked out fine in his physical Wednesday, as the 30-year-old is expected to be signed and in camp Thursday morning. Edwards enjoyed a couple of productive seasons with the Jets from 2009-2010, but he hauled in just eight passes in 10 games for the Seahawks last season, and it's hard to see him regaining much fantasy relevance at his age.

Breaking news.....the Jets also sign Broadway Joe to be QB. This ownership is a joke. No player wants to play there.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. 8-8 doesn't sound too bad but they were awful more than once this year.

Jets owner Woody Johnson announced after Sunday's Week 17 win over the Dolphins that coach Rex Ryan will return in 2014.

All things considered, Ryan did a heck of a job leading an offensively-challenged -- to put it nice -- Jets team to an 8-8 record. After getting off to a nice 5-4 start behind strong defensive play and a couple of nice outings by rookie QB Geno Smith, the Jets fell off and lost three straight out of the bye week. Gang Green got back on track and won three of their final four. Ryan boasts a 46-40 career record, including the playoffs, through five seasons. The Jets need to get some playmakers on offense and shore up the back end of their defense, but there are pieces to build around. The young defensive line is going to wreak havoc for many years to come. The Jets entered Week 17 with the league's No. 3 run defense. Ryan is a terrific ball coach and motivator and wouldn't have struggled to find work had he been let go by New York.

I actually like the Ryan boys. Good for Rex holding that team together this year. I didn't expect an 8 win season that is for sure. All in all he did well with that sack of shit offense this year.

Still ain't sold on Geno at QB, although he did show some upside. I won't rip on him, but I think he is a ticking time bomb in NY. I fully expect a Ryan Leaf locker room meltdown one day where he loses it.

Come on now, I didn't think 0-16, I thought 2-4 wins for the Jets, so 8 wins is actually a hell of a job by them and Rex should get some credit for keeping the faith and keeping that team together and getting them to produce at a decent level. I think he definitely deserved to keep his job for at least another year...

The New York Daily News reports the Jets "covet" free agent wide receivers Jeremy Maclin and Emmanuel Sanders. Analysis: The Jets are expected to express interest in fellow free agent Eric Decker, but it's believed he'll land elsewhere. Gang Green knows it needs to upgrade/overhaul its receiving corps. The Jets were 31st in passing this past season. Maclin could come relatively cheap on a one-year deal due to the fact he's recovering from a second ACL tear.

And fantasy owners everywhere cried out in horror.

Jets hired Todd Bowles as head coach. Analysis: Bowles, 51, is coming home, as he's from Elizabeth, New Jersey and played his college ball at Temple. Bowles has been the Cardinals' defensive coordinator the past two seasons after holding the same title in Philadelphia and Miami prior to his gig in Arizona. The Cardinals fielded the league's No. 6 total defense in 2013 before injuries and suspensions ripped up the 2014 club. Bowles is still a maximizer of talent and puts his players in the best position to succeed. His top task is hiring a bright offensive mind to right the Jets' offense.
