Hi guys I'm Toby and I'm interested in getting an expansion franchise or maybe filling a vacancy.



1 Tell us about your fantasy football experience, including the types of leagues you play in and where they are hosted.

I've been playing fantasy football for over 20 years. When my friends and I started playing in school we tabulated stats by hand after watching sportscenter and / or checking the newspaper. In the past five years or so I started playing in Dynasty leagues, but before that I mostly played in redraft leagues or keeper leagues with just a couple keepers. I mainly play in leagues on MFL or Fleaflicker.com

2 Why do you want to be part of RW, what drew your interest?

I think it is evolution. I started in redraft leagues then to keeper leagues with just a few keepers then to basic dynasty leagues and now I'm looking for that next step. I have read through the RW rules and it looks like a good match for me. Seems to be more of a year round league. I'm ready for my next fantasy football challenge.

3 How much time in a typical week do you spend on your fantasy football hobby?

A lot, I work nights so I can spend a good amount of time researching fantasy football stuff. I don't really like college football, but I pay attention just for the NFL draft prospects preparing my FF draft strategy. I try to respond to trade requests, league polls, etc. right away.

4 Talk about a favorite memory or crazy fantasy football related story

My favorite memory is the first money league I played in. I was 16 and was playing against guys from age 21 and up. They were all giving me shit for being so young and that they knew so much more about football than me. I had about one hour to prepare before the draft and was armed with a couple fantasy football mags. I was given the option of drafting first or last in a 12 team league and picked going last. They all made fun of me for passing on the #1 player. Well I ended up kicking ass and winning about 600 bucks.

5 What do you think members of your other leagues would say about you as an owner?

I think it would all be positive.

6 Anything else you would like to add?

Just that I love football and fantasy football. I think it is amazing how much fantasy football has grown in the past and how it has changed the NFL. The Redzone channel was created for fantasy footballers.

Hey, Toby. I'm glad you found Roster Wars. It sounds like you showed some impressive early dedication to fantasy football...I waited until it got easy, so can't imagine calculating stats by hand. Hardcore.

I do think Roster Wars is an evolved model of a fantasy league, but I'll warn you that there are a couple of owners you'll catch dragging their knuckles from time to time.  

So what's family life like for you working overnights? Single? Married? Kids? Tell us a bit about your non-fantasy life.

Wow, you guys are diehards. I didn't expect so many replies right away. Very cool.


To answer some of the questions.

Working nights has its + and -'s. I work 7p to 7a so I work 3 days one week and 4 the next. So I think it beats a 5 day a week 8 hour schedule. Sleeping during the day sucks but I have a system that works pretty good.

I am married with 2 kids, 12 and 8. My wife doesn't know how much I spend on fantasy football, if she did she would shoot me.

Outside of all things football, I'm busy with kids sports year round. Baseball, Softball, Football, Vollyball, etc. I do enjoy watching baseball, not so much fantasy baseball. I gave that up when I found a baseball sim game HBD on whatifsports.com. Its really cool if you are a baseball fan.

I am a video game nerd. I have just about every system since the Atari 2600. I still play Super Tecmo Bowl on the NES and NHL on the Genesis.

I have played and enjoy IDP. I started in a league this year that uses punters, so now all that's left is a way to figure in O lineman. I'm sure that's the next thing coming.

Don't know if I mentioned that I'm a Rams season ticket holder, so that's where you can find me on game days 8 times a year. This year I'm making the trip to Indy to watch the Rams and Colts. I think a friend and I will try to travel to another NFL stadium each year.

Cool. I'm in KC but make it to St. Louis quite a bit. Thought I would have made trip to spend a few days at Rams training camp, but have been down with a back injury. Really hoping the Rams are going to have an exciting season. Have only seen them live in their preseason games with the Chiefs.

About a week late, but welcome to Roster Wars Toby! As you said in your second reply, diehards indeed. You walked into the best fantasy football universe out there. We are so much more than a fantasy football league. This RW universe covers everything about everything. When there is nothing going on with football, we still use this forum as a gathering place where we talk about whatever, mainly bitching about no football during the slow times. lol

Hopefully you hang around and get your name out there and one day, can take over a franchise here in Roster Wars. Bring your A game no doubt and make the members remember you.
