Even though they are a hated furious division rival I can still be civil - Congrats on the hiring of Joe Philbin. I think he will make a difference as head coach and helps point the franchise in the right direction...finally...not to mention he gives them a leg up on signing Flynn and possibly Finley this off season.

Why woudln't you want Flynn to go there?

I think he'd be great there. Run same offense as GB. With Bush and Marshall to complete the "triplets"

Man, I stuffed Flynn on nearly all the my leagues hoping like hell he would leave GBP this season and land a starting gig somewhere juicy. Miami would be a great landing spot with Philbin calling the shots, so fingers crossed on my part.

Miami needs to start rebuilding their defense as well. I'm not sold on Flynn as the answer. He's gonna be another Kolb/Cassel... Did enough to get PAID somewhere, but in reality, being on the Packers made him look better than he is.

The Miami Herald reports that Dolphins owner Stephen Ross is "infatuated with the idea" of signing Peyton Manning.
According to the Herald's Barry Jackson, Ross is willing "to wait as long as necessary" for Manning after he's released by the Colts. Manning may not be ready to sign right away -- for medical or personal reasons -- but Ross will be there when he is. The Dolphins reportedly believe they have a "realistic chance" of landing Manning. Earlier this week, agent Tom Condon made it clear that Manning's $28 million March 8 bonus will not be pushed back, meaning a Dolphins deal could theoretically be in place before March 13.

I'm not to sure on that one. I can't see him going somewhere that he has to play outside in nasty weather in November and December. I lived there for 10 years and the weather is not nice towards the end of the year. If he does go to Miami I bet the games in Buffalo, New York and New England will be in the early part of the schedule.

Former Jaguars QB Garrard says he's joining Dolphins

Quote :
Former Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback David Garrard is joining the Miami Dolphins, he told Fox Sports insider and NFL Network contributor Jay Glazer on Monday night in a text message.

Garrard didn't reveal terms of the deal, which brings him to Miami to compete with Matt Moore for the starting job -- unless the team brings in another quarterback. The Dolphins missed out on Peyton Manning and Matt Flynn, who chose the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks, respectively. Alex Smith visited Miami on Sunday, but he could return to San Francisco, where he has spent his entire NFL career.

Garrard, a starter for the Jaguars from 2005 to 2010, didn't play last season. He was released five days before the opener, then underwent back surgery in October.

Poor Ireland...

Quote :
Take free-agent linebacker Joey Porter,
who didn't pull any punches Monday in explaining to NFL Network why he
believed Miami is having trouble attracting free agents this offseason.
"I
think Jeff Ireland has a big part to do with it," said Porter, who
spent three seasons with the Dolphins from 2007-09. "I don't think when
you come in being recruited by him you really believe things coming out
of his mouth. I think he's a guy that's not trustworthy. He really
doesn't hold up to what a GM's supposed to be."
Porter and NFL
Network analyst Warren Sapp went on to discuss Ireland's Waterloo -- the
GM's fateful decision during a 2010 pre-draft interview to ask Dez Bryant if his mother was a prostitute. Ireland later apologized, but he's yet to shake the stink of that woeful lack of tact.
Porter's opinion evokes memories of Channing Crowder, another former Dolphins linebacker who told NFL.com during Super Bowl week that Ireland is "disrespectful" and "not a good person."

Well this is interesting. Dolphins owner calls a fan?

Quote :
Miami Dolphins
owner Stephen Ross, besieged by criticism from his team's fans over an
offseason filled with missed opportunities, took the unusual step of
calling one of those disgruntled fans Thursday night to explain some of
the front office's recent decisions.
Among Ross' revelations, according to ProFootballTalk.com: The Dolphins were ready to cut wide receiver Brandon Marshall before trading him to the Chicago Bears, and new coach Joe Philbin didn't want Matt Flynn to be his starting quarterback.
"[Ross]
said they had been shopping [Marshall] for a couple weeks," Lawrence
said. "Nobody would return their phone calls about getting him. If
Chicago didn't take [Marshall] … they would have ended up cutting him
very shortly after that, and got nothing."
The Dolphins were
thought to have an advantage in signing Flynn, a free agent, because of
Flynn's relationship with new Miami coach Joe Philbin, who was Green
Bay's offensive coordinator when Flynn was the Packers' backup
quarterback.
But Lawrence told a different story.
"[Ross]
goes, 'If my coach wanted Matt Flynn, didn't you think he would be
here?'" Lawrence told the Sun Sentinel. "'If my coach said, 'I want Matt
Flynn as our starting quarterback next year,' he would be here, but I
couldn't pay Matt Flynn $8 million to come here. If I end up getting
him, it's a gamble … and I'm still drafting a quarterback. I'm still
looking for another option.'"

So if Philbin says to avoid Flynn I think that sends a pretty big message about what he thinks about him. Pretty surprised by that.

Would have cut Marshall? The hell? Just sick of the headaches? Insanity...

Miami gets stranger and stranger.

I've been saying that with certainty since they lost out on Manning, Flynn and traded Marshall for a late pick.

Miami should have had higher picks in the last couple of years but they somehow manage to convince other teams to give them cheap victories.

I still don't see them passing on Tanny!

Quote :
The Miami Dolphins are expected to formally release defensive end Phillip Merling, two sources said Monday.

A second-round pick in 2008, Merling has shown a lack of discipline that has worn thin with the team, sources said.

Merling joins a long list of second-round picks in Miami who have not managed to catch on with the team. The list also includes such players as Chad Henne, Pat White, Derek Hagan, Matt Roth and John Beck.

The release of Merling is particularly relevant because it is draft week. After losing Kendall Langford in free agency, that's two defensive ends that Miami must now look to replace. Some believe, if the Dolphins don't draft a quarterback with the eighth pick, they are likely candidates to push for a defensive end instead. Merling's departure should strengthen those possibilities.

Merling, who just recently signed his tender as a restricted free agent, has not been attending voluntary workouts recently -- something that has also worn down the team and also led to the decision to release him.

I'm wondering what the chances are that they pass on Tannehill at 1.08 then use their 2.10, 3.09 and 3.10 to move back into the first round when no one else takes him either. Maybe they could get Floyd at 8?

Tannehill - Bush/Thomas - Floyd - Bess. Better than nothing

If they dont go Tannenhill they can still move back and get Osweiler. Osweiler, or Cousins + Floyd might work out better than just Tannenhill I think. Hopefully the Eagles can make a deal with the Dolphins. That'd be pretty sweet for both sides if hte Dolphins decide to pass on Tannenhill that early.

Can't believe it took them 20 years to take another 1st round QB after Marino

(Heard Mayock's stat - 15/23 1st round QBs taken in x years became starters, vs like 7 of 80+ QBs taken rounds 2-7 over same time period)

Draft recap from Bleacher Report:

Quote :
Draft Picks:

Round 1: QB Ryan Tannehill (Texas A&M)

Round 2: OT Jonathan Martin (Stanford)

Round 3: DE Olivier Vernon (Miami, FL), TE Michael Egnew (Missouri)

Round 4: RB Lamar Miller (Miami, FL)

Round 5: OLB Josh Kaddu (Oregon)

Round 6: WR B.J. Cunningham (Michigan State)

Round 7: DT Kheeston Randall (Texas), WR Rishard Matthews (Nevada)

Grade: B-

Summary:

Other than that reach for Ryan Tannehill in Round 1, Miami did a really good job of managing this draft.

Jonathan Martin will step in immediately at right tackle, fixing the revolving door at right tackle. Vernon is a potential starter at defensive end opposite Cameron Wake. Michael Egnew is a good flexed-out tight end.

The steal of the class for Miami was speedster running back Lamar Miller in Round Four. With Reggie Bush in a contract year, Miller's presence could be huge.

I think Miller is the really intriguing pick here. I don't think Daniel Thomas is going to be difficult to outshine but Bush may be tougher. All I can say is at least it's not Jacksonville.
