The heir apparent to Andre Johnson or just a #2?

My limited view is that he is a #2 guy which is great for Houston right now but when Andre is done...I think they need to have a plan there.

Andre and DeAndre. I like it. I think he was the best fit for the Texans out of all of the WRs on the board. They made their team a whooole lot better with this pick.

Not as high of upside as some of the other WRs but he is probably the most pro ready who can step in and help the Texans now. Should be a good fit there...

Coach Gary Kubiak compared first-round WR DeAndre Hopkins to Rod Smith.

Analysis: Kubiak was in Denver when Smith went to three Pro Bowls and topped 1,000 yards eight times. "We love this guy," GM Rick Smith said. "He is a guy who we thought could best come into this situation and help us the quickest, and not only quickly but this guy can evolve and develop into quite a player." The Texans have not been shy about heaping pressure on Hopkins right out of the gate. It would be a shock if he isn't the starting "Z" come Week 1.

I have Austin and Hopkins as my 1a 1b for WR's this year. I think he is the safest pick in the draft.

Hopkins agreed to a four-year, $7.62 million deal with Houston on Monday, Houston Chronicle writer John McClain reports. Analysis: Hopkins worked with the starters during Houston's minicamp, and he's a strong bet to stick with the first team for the duration of his rookie year. Although his fantasy upside might be limited this year by Houston's rather run-heavy offense and the presence of Andre Johnson, Hopkins could very well be Houston's future No. 1 receiver.

I'm expecting big things this year.

Yeah, I like this guy alot... and you can't beat the opportunity he is going to get as a rookie! I tried to get him in most of my leagues and was completely unsuccessful... a couple times he was taken a pick or two in front of me! Dammit Mad

I scooped him up almost everywhere. Then bet on him against Shawn that he'd have a top 20 WR RW finish.

Not sure about a top 20 WR finish in his first season, but he will have plenty of them in future seasons!

Future STUD. Serviceable this year. Very few rookie WR's break the top 20.

I know they're few and far between but like I said I'm heavy on the Hopkins train.

I think Hopkins only breaks the top 20 if AJ goes down in the first few weeks of the season.

After watching DeAndre Hopkins in OTAs and early in training camp, The Sideline View's Lance Zierlein believes 52-60 receptions would be a "very reasonable goal" for the first-round pick.

Analysis: Zierlein has some background in fantasy football and will be writing a weekly column for Rotoworld this year. He's also long covered the Texans. Hopkins is a bit limited by Houston's run-first offensive philosophy and Owen Daniels' presence, but his upside could come into play if 32-year-old Andre Johnson breaks down. For now, think of Hopkins as a solid WR4 pick in fantasy drafts.

Alright I'll put it to paper.

Hopkins
70 Catches
980 Yards
8 TD's
~ 216 Points in RW.

Those are pretty lofty numbers for a rookie... Its possible, but alot of things need to fall his way to reach those numbers. Lets see how he looks in a preseason game or two first...

Er, nope? Not a chance. I can't see him getting more than 974 yards at the most.

DeAndre Hopkins "just keeps getting better" at Texans camp. Analysis: As CSN Houston puts it, Hopkins' best day was Wednesday until he excelled on Thursday. Then Thursday was his best day until Friday. The No. 27 overall pick and clear-cut starting "Z" receiver continues to make big plays on a daily basis. "All the contested stuff is what he's exceptional at, when it's close and it's him and another guy, he makes the play," coach Gary Kubiak said. Hopkins is a WR4 with upside in re-draft and one of the best Dynasty prospects in this rookie class.

Is concussed. Never a good sign...

DeAndre Hopkins has been officially diagnosed with a concussion.

Coach Gary Kubiak says Hopkins is "fine," but he's now highly questionable for next Sunday's game against the Saints, where the Texans will make their final preparations for the regular season. The injury has little bearing on Hopkins' status as a WR3/4 flier.

Hopkins, who has moved to stage four (of five) in the NFL's concussion protocol, could play Thursday against the Cowboys, Houston Chronicle reports. Analysis: Earlier reports suggested that Hokpins had been cleared to practice, but while that's not quite the case, he's evidently getting close and that could occur as soon as Wednesday. "He's doing good," coach Gary Kubiak said Tuesday. "He has not been totally cleared to return to practice...He did do a lot of work (Tuesday) with the trainers."
C'mon man.

When you have Andre Johnson and Arian Foster on your team... You don't really feel the need to rush a rookie wide out back from a concussion... Take your time Mr. Kubiak... Andre and Arian will carry the load.

Following Sunday's win over the Titans, DeAndre Hopkins said, "I feel like I can be better than Andre [Johnson]." Analysis: Hopkins put the Texans on his back late in the overtime win, finishing with a seven catches for 117 yards -- and the game-winning touchdown. The comment wasn't meant to be a shot at his mentor. "That's my mindset," Hopkins said. "And that's what Andre tells me. (He says) Don't try to shadow yourself when you know you can be better." Johnson is tentatively expected to play in Week 3 despite sustaining a concussion Sunday.

Maybe a very high WR2 with WR1 upside, is what I would give him...I just don't see him being a top 5 WR, even with Andre gone. Most of the time a WR1 are players that finish in the top 5, so if you finish outside the top 5 you are a low WR1 with WR2 upside IMO.

I'm not saying he can't be a #1, but until they get a competent QB, he will still be a WR2 in my eyes.

You're saying there's only five WR1's in the NFL? That's a little silly.

So Dez Bryant, D-Train, Calvin Johnson, Julio Jones and AJ Green are WR1? Cobb, Nelson, Antonio Brown, Odell Beckham, etc. etc. aren't?

Yes, I should've said the top 10 WRs are WR1 and anything outside of that I consider high WR2 material.

The 1st 5 you mentioned are the elite WRs in the NFL and the others are WR1s, but not elite WR1's. They are still WR1's, but not the hands down WR1's like Calvin, Dez, DT, AJ and Julio

Unless they find a fix at QB, I really can't consider Hopkins a WR1.

Hopkins is a #1 but they need to get a decent #2 or he will struggle. Obviously improved QB play makes a hell of a difference too.

I agree with Andy, Hopkins can be a low end #1, but only IF they have at least a decent #2 to help take some of the pressure off... He isn't one of those transcendant #1's that can dominate on his own...

Depending on who the Texans bring in, this could help Hopkins since last year AJ was barely even what I would call a decent #2...

This was my feeling as well. AJG is a WR1 on a team with little help around him. His stats fell last year if you ask me, and Hopkins isnt going to be able to survive that type of WR lifestyle without some help. Hopkins is no AJG. They must have a plan.
