Pittsburgh Steelers LB James Harrison (knee) might need arthroscopic surgery on his injured knee before the regular season opener. Harrison has not yet practiced during training camp, remaining on the Physically-Unable-To-Perform (PUP) list due to swelling behind his kneecap.

Bengals have a solid shot to put up more W's than Pitt this year IMO.

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin is optimistic that OLB James Harrison (knee scope) will be ready for Week 1.

"Shouldn't be long," Tomlin said. "We'll see when we get him back here and start the process of working him back." The Steelers believe Harrison aggravated the injury by pushing himself too hard in rehab. He hasn't practiced since early spring. LBs coach Keith Butler says he'd "prefer" not to kick ILB Lawrence Timmons outside, and instead stick with Chris Carter or Jason Worilds.

Go Worilds!

Harrison is old and crotchety.

Harrison (knee) seems unlikely to play Sunday night against the Broncos, NFL.com reports. Analysis: Harrison considers himself a game-time decision, but acknowledged that his knee doesn't feel too good at this point, which makes him a very risky Week 1 play, especially given the Steelers' late kickoff. Chris Carter figures to start at right outside linebacker Sunday if Harrison is indeed scratched.

Looks like he's a no-go.

Steelers linebacker James Harrison will make his season debut Sunday against the Jets according to ESPN.com. Analysis: Harrison had surgery on his left knee a little over a month ago and is finally ready to go. His presence should make life a little more difficult for New York QB Mark Sanchez, who breezed to a 266-yard/three touchdown performance in the season opener against Buffalo.

The Steelers are expected to be without OLB James Harrison (knee) and perhaps SS Troy Polamalu (calf) versus the Jets in Week 2. Analysis: "I'm great, I'm full go, I'm playing on Sunday. Run it," Harrison said Thursday before adding, "I've been known to lie." Harrison ended up sitting out practice instead of practicing full go. After expressing early-week optimism that Polamalu would play, the coaches are now talking as if he won't be available.

Coach Mike Tomlin expects Harrison (knee) will play Sunday, Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports. Analysis: "Based on what I am looking at on how we worked yesterday I think that is a safe assessment (they will play)," Tomlin said in reference to Harrison and teammate Troy Polamalu. Harrison will be welcomed back with open arms by the Steelers, who have had trouble rushing the quarterback this year, totaling just five sacks to date.

About time...

The Steelers will cut Harrison, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. Analysis: Although he's one of the best Steelers ever, Pittsburgh's salary cap issues made retaining the ferocious defender impractical. It moves outside linebacker up on Pittsburgh's list of needs, though in-house tandem of LaMarr Woodley and Jason Worilds may be be enough to get by.

It's a sad day in the steel city.

Harrison agreed to a two-year contract with the Bengals on Friday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. Analysis: The deal was held up this week for unknown reasons, but Harrison and the Bengals were able to iron things out and get a deal done Friday. Harrison's 6.0 sacks last season were his fewest since 2006, but the 34-year-old should continue to be a pass-rushing force for his new team. Harrison gets Ben Roethlisberger and his former team, the Steelers, in Week 2 of the 2013 season.

Free agent OLB James Harrison plans to sign with the Steelers on Tuesday. Analysis: That was a short retirement. Harrison, 36, "retired" on August 30 simply because nobody wanted him. He has nothing left in the tank, but it's a feel good story for him to play his last snaps for the Steelers. Pittsburgh needs the help after losing Jarvis Jones to short-term I.R. on Monday. Keep expectations low.

UNRETIRED

Harrison has decided he wants to play one more season, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. "I decided to hold off on retirement, so it's time to pack up and head to AZ to start my training so I can be ready to play another year," Harrison wrote on Twitter and Instagram Sunday. Analysis: The ball is in the Steelers' hands now, as Harrison becomes an unrestricted free agent March 10 if Pittsburgh does not sign him before then. Currently, Jarvis Jones is the only outside linebacker with experience under contract.

Still not retiring.

Steelers OLB James Harrison confirmed he will play in 2016.
Despite turning 38 this month, it was widely expected Harrison would decide to play another year. Harrison remained an effective pass rusher in a limited role last season, recording five sacks in 611 snaps. The Steelers need to develop their young pass rushers, but Harrison should once again provide a nice boost on the edge.

Is that the same son that got attacked by Harrison's pit bull?

It looks like that's a lot of fun, though.
