Watt left practice Thursday with an elbow injury, HoustonTexans.com's Nick Scurfield reports. Analysis: Watt's elbow injury is currently being evaluated, but for now coach Gary Kubiak said that he thinks Watt will be fine by the start of the regular season.

He "thinks" he'll be fine by the start of the regular season sounds pretty ominous to me.

Texans DE J.J. Watt suffered a dislocated elbow in Thursday's practice.

Watt had to be carted off the field, and coach Gary Kubiak expressed initial concern that Watt could miss the preseason. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports, however, that Watt is expected to "not miss much time" after doctor's pop the joint back in Thursday afternoon. "We dodged another bullet," said Kubiak. All the tests came out good." A linchpin in one of the league's most talented defenses, Watt is in no danger of missing regular-season action.

Lucky here for the Texans

Houston Texans DL J.J. Watt (elbow) is expected to return to practice after the team's third preseason game Thursday, Aug. 23, against the New Orleans Saints. Watt has been sidelined two weeks with a dislocated left elbow.

Watt (elbow) said Monday that he thinks he'll be 100 percent for Sunday's opener against the Dolphins, Nick Scurfield of HoustonTexans.com reports. Analysis: It's certainly good news for a Texans team that lost Mario Williams in the offseason. The 23-year-old defensive end recorded 5.5 sacks as a rookie last season

Great news for Watt!

Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt (elbow) revealed that he played through the entire 2012 season with multiple torn ligaments in his left elbow. He dislocated the elbow in the first week of practices in August. He said his elbow now feels great and that he hopes not to have to wear a brace again. "All the ligaments in there were torn, they were all gone, so they had to have time to recover and regroup," Watt said.

That is just unreal! Some guys miss time due to "soreness" and others, like Watt, will play through major injuries... the numbers he put up while injured are scary!!! What a beast!

OH how scared I just got when I saw the newspaper next to his name. When I heard the news about Daryl Washington the first thing I thought of was that I hope the same doesn't happen to JJ.

There is a 100% chance that Watt is using HGH. He just hasn't been caught yet.

What I learned is that 2012 was a perfect mixture of beast + torn ligaments + possible HGH use (according to Jason) and thus no way does he reproduce those numbers because the ligaments at the very least have healed. Well, it was a nice year.

Watt is certainly a great player and is the best Defensive Linemen in the game, unquestioned... but I can't see him as a legitimate MVP candidate... the Texans are not making the playoffs and they may or may not even finish .500... he is having a great statistical year personally but what is the argument for MVP? that they would have been 5-11 rather than 8-8 if it weren't for Watt? Big fuckin' woop! I guess I am from the camp that believes the MVP should be part of a winning team that at least makes the playoffs, not just a player with a great statistical season...

zip it zip it

Although, I'm REALLY glad we got out of that one with a win yesterday.

Chris, I would argue, if one player simply means the difference to a winning or even .500 record, instead of the #1 overall Draft pick, then what IS the definition of MVP?

Let's be realistic, if you have to totally game-plan against one player on Defense, instead of any of the rest, that says something.

So, you are saying that Watt is the only difference between this team being 8-8 (if they actually get there) and being maybe a 1 or 2 win team overall? If that were the case I suppose an argument for MVP could be made, possibly.... but I just don't see that as the case... I don't buy that Watt is the prime difference maker between the first overall draft pick and 8-8... He is roughly on the same statistical arc as he has been for the last 3 years and he didn't save them from the #1 pick last year! I think the difference for the Texans this year has more to do Arian Foster being more healthy, Alfred Blue being a quality fill-in when Foster was out and the overall improved play from the QB position. Fitzpatrick was not a worldbeater but he is light years ahead of Case Keenum and that made a big difference with this offense. Too many other factors for me to buy Watt as the main factor with the Texans rise from the depths to mediocrity, therefore he is not a serious MVP candidate in my viewpoint.

You know, you're right. Didn't think before typing about the #1 overall.

I just feel, that when you are THAT player that everyone game plans against, you HAVE to be in the consideration.

Offense or Defense.

It's just my opinion,. I do not believe he will ever get it. We are way to wrapped up in the Offensive players anymore. But, that is also something that needs looked at in this argument. The rules are being shifted so much to benefit the Offense and especially the QB's, he still plays within that and is STILL dominant.

That speaks volumes to me.

I wish people would pay more attention to the defensive side of the ball. I mean when you get down to it, they are just as important as offensive players. People just need to understand what it takes to be a defender, and understand the art of tackling. Once that happens maybe defensive players will get some love for the MVP award, but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=914270315304441

This is J.J. Watt box jumping 61 inches. The world record? 64 inches. Held by a guy that's 5'10 175lbs. That's 114lbs less than what Watt weighs in it.

Guy is a fucking freak of nature.

This dude is a tank in skin. You could break both his hands and chop off a foot and he would still put up 2 sacks, 4 TFL, an interception, 2 touchdowns, 94 punt return yards and make $37 in tips selling cotton candy at halftime.
